Scotland 2014 Freelander 2 TD4_e Dynamic Manual Fuji White

Thanks folks I'm pleased with the result. I'm not really sure why JLR did not offer this as an accessory on the Freelander 2 or the Defender as these are the vehicles that are most commonly used off road/by farmers and a torch on hand will always come in use especially in the winter months.

Lightwater there is not much soundproofing behind the panel but there is some sound proofing attached to the car. If you were to have thicker sound proofing installed along with additional sound proofing then you most certainly would decrease the DB inside. Personally I dont find the Freelander is a noisy vehicle perhaps it's the terrain you guys drive on.

We have about 6 times the roads per capita compared to you. Crap surfacing, potholes etc, & they are the good roads, & then after a typical Sydney downpour we are left with goat tracks when we go to the shopping centre! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Got the torch all connected up today and it works a treat

The harness lead that comes with the kit has 3 plugs

The green plug fits into the charging cradle and the smaller black plug fits into the back of the Aux socket

The orange plug which originally connected to the aux socket now connects to the large black plug on the harness lead

The finished product

Looks ace Thumbs Up

Is the orange 12v cable in all the models? I don't have a 12v socket in the back and wouldn't mind fitting one then later on the torch. I only ask as mine has the power cables for the auto dim rear view mirror but not the mirror its self, might it be the same re this 12v cable?

Looks good, I was thinking about this for the DS, at least with this torch it's always charged. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Offshore1987 to the best of my knowledge if you do not have an aux socket outlet on the boot panel then you will not have a cable behind the boot panel either. However you can retrofit a socket and it's been done on here before.

CG yes it would make more sense to have it at the front BUT it's not really much bother to open the boot and remove it. As it piggy backs of an aux socket outlet it requires to be next to a power source supply. However you could extend the harness and fit the rechargeable torch at the front. As Land Rover fit these to all their models in the boot next to the aux power supply it made sense to fit mine in the same way and it looks like a factory fit had the option be available. Wink

J77 that was my thoughts exactly, I would honestly recommended it Thumbs Up MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

The torch is great... but 270 bucks! Wow. LRNUT, with your tasty contribution to 'the money pit' i'm keen to know what you do for a living.

Love the car, particularly the spoiler.

How come you didn't go for Team HEKO wind deflectors? All the boys have those back home I here! I have some on order to Aus but so far 3 weeks have past and still nothing Neutral

Scotland 2014 Freelander 2 TD4_e Dynamic Manual Fuji White

This afternoon I finally got round to removing the chrome surround around the centre console which I will be getting finished in grand black lacquer. I wanted to have this prior to picking the car up as the MY14 HSE LUX was meant to have this extra feature as standard. However JLR never went ahead with it, therefore I left it as is until now as I have no option but to paint it. At the same time I have also removed the small base section in front of the sat nav unit which I will also be getting finished in grand black lacquer as our Disco's have it and it does really look good! Initially I thought it would be a mirror reflection against the screen but it does not impair the vision when the sun is out.

I did also contemplate about getting the whole front fascia finished in grand black lacquer but the top of the sat nav unit has a slight reflection already on a cloudy/sunny day (can be seen in the picture) and it would not be a pleasant journey on a sunny day hence the reason I will leave it as is. I really liked the grand black lacquer on the D3 centre facia but it was only the lower sections that had this done and not around the whole sat nav unit. As the Freelander centre facia is one piece it would look rather odd to only paint the lower part.

Brief removal guide below...

Standard console.

Pull down the gear gaiter.

You will now expose the white clamps.

Lightly pull the gear knob up and it will release.

The easy way to pull the chrome trim up is by using the trim removal tool. The bottom right corner will give you good leverage and then simply work your way around the chrome trim.

Trim removed.

The gearstick gaiter is held in place by 5 black tabs simply release them with your fingers. As for the rubber mat in front of the gaiter you simply pull this out and the rubber tabs underneath the chrome trim will pull through the slits. Now you will be left with the chrome trim.

The lower panel below the sat nav screen I removed with the aid of the trim removal tool. Simply place it in the recess and work around and the panel will pop out.

Hopefully once these pieces are finished in grand black lacquer it will further compliment the standard grand black lacquer pieces.

Well was getting a bit bored looking at the insulation!

Got the panels back today and they look phenomenal. They are a 100% match with the factory grand black lacquer pieces and you would be forgiven to assume that the car left the factory like this.

Overall I'm really pleased with the result and I wish that I had done this when I got the car. It has really helped to bring out the interior further and it does oddily enough gives you a sense that the car is more luxurious.
