Has anybody recently fitted a Xenon HID kit to 2012 type projector headlights, I am looking at Alltronix H11 CANBUS TERMINATOR 35W HID XENON CONVERSION KIT 4300K. they also sell another setup which has a thicker transformer pack called Canbus Pro, its circa £2.00 cheaper

35 x 4300k replicates the LR standard fitment for power and colour.

Please can anybody give me any comments on these or other Xenon HID kits as best buy??

I've bought Alltronics HID Xenon H11 35watt 4300 kelvin, so now to get it fitted. Does anybody know if the electronics pack gets hot?

It'll get warm likely, but not searing hot.

Your not getting many replies as it's just not been a common upgrade due to the legality issues that make people shy away from it.

As such there is no common make or supplier which has a known reputation. Its a bit pot luck.

I'd be interested to see how you get on. Please report back on whether it's a success.

Fred, be interested to know how you get on with this. How easy is it to fit with wiring changes etc. Also how pleased you are with the outcome. This is the next mod I am looking at as I think the standard halogen projector lights are pretty poor. 2011 XS SD4, Indus Silver (Getting to love it more and more)

Fred, I have seen a 35w HID kit on the HIDs 4 U site that says it is error free. not sure where you got your kit from, but I don't think this is a bad price and may go for them. 2011 XS SD4, Indus Silver (Getting to love it more and more)

After 3 nights trials removed.

Results
Streaky pencil beam lost the side illumination.
Ghosting of beam above the line where it should be cut off as dip.
Oncoming drivers dazzled.

I think that the inner parabolic reflector of the headlamp must be designed fit the short H11 halogen standard bulb. The Xenon bulb is very long reaching forward which is why I think the pencil beam occurs and also allows the upper ghost beam.

Thank you for the information. Looks as if you may have sav3ed me from an expensive mistake. I am surprised at your observations with regard to the length of the bulbs as the length to the centre of the element (in no HID's) and the centre of the discharge tube (in the HID's) should be the same if they are to comply with the requirements of the specification for the bulb type.

Hi Blackbird, I've edited my post above a little. I would hazard a guess that the projector chromed aluminium parabolic reflector for a OE xenon is radically different to the same module when used with a halogen bulb.

I am writing my comment from the point of view of MY2013 headlights but some info may be relevant here. Having looked at both the halogen and xenon headlamps side by side, essentially they have the same housing externally and internally except different wiring looms and the holder (that sits on the three pins which adjust up/down and left/right and holds the bulb plus other parts) are bulb specific. Otherwise the single bulb 'bi-xenon' design is the same for both types of bulb.

I have also looked at the temperature (K) of the xenon bulbs and whether they can be changed, the OEM being about 4300K. Alternatives available on the net which are not OEM bulbs (eg Osram) are much cheaper but may be of inferior design or construction - some kind vary by, say, 1mm in the position of the electrodes (if that is the correct term) which is a country mile in terms of correct position of the light source in the lamp itself (which must then give rise to poor pattern and possible dazzling), but also may not be UV protected, which can lead to premature aging of the light unit (amongst other things, no doubt). Having seen HID kits including bulbs at a much lower price than one OEM xenon bulb, I can't see those being of sufficient quality to form a suitable replacement for a halogen bulb in the short or long term.

Hi Andrew, my headlamps in question are the 2011 / 2012 style, are they the same as your 2013?

Certainly the my 11 & 12 have the same external black shell and the same chrome plastic internal shell / reflector AND clear glass as all 3 have moulded in detail giving bulb types etc for both standard bulbs and xenon.

I am pleased that you identify the dip unit as being bulb type specific.

The arc centre burn spot if the aftermarket xenon is a complete shedload away from a standard H11 halogen bulb.
Interesting comment about the burn degradation hazard.

I'm hoping to fit the Osram nightbreaker unlimited soon and would like to add a further comment which hopefully someone might comment on. Inside the parabolic reflector module is the sheet steel wall that blocks off the top beam exit path to give us the UK dip beam. The wall is Matt silver finish so must absorb heat and light. What if we replace this with a carefully made mirror finish stainless wall? Might this reflect the light and give a brighter effect at the road?
