My rear right door speaker has blown (it distorts speech and low frequencies) Confused
My radio is a base line model

Question:
can I replace the door speaker DIY ?
how many Watts, Ohms is it ?
size ?
is it painless to remove the door panel / card ?

thank you all in advance

I can't help with the speaker itself (except to suggest contacting Dan at Duckworths for a price), but there are several posts on here relating to removing the door panels - just do a search for 'remove door panel' and you will get plenty of useful information.

Usually it shows the Wattage/Ohms on the magnet on the speaker.

I doubt they are of good quality, so I'd suggest taking one out and getting it matched up with a better quality speaker and swap both rears.

i remember on my previous car, the speakers just said Chrysler, no indications besides the serial number
then i learnt from the forum that they were Alpine 4 Ohms etc.

There are some on ebay that will post abroad.

The door trim comes off easily one you have removed the screws... a good clean yank from the bottom up then does the rest up.

I had a 2007 S trim car and replaced all four door speakers with 'premium' LR ones. About twice the weight of the originals. Made a big difference even with the base headunit. 2016 BMW X3 30d SE in red

The speakers are 4 ohm 20 watt 6 1/2" Chinese speakers

I would go for better aftermarket replacements but If you can find some S/H originals cheaply then go for those.

Here is a diagram on how to get the panels off, the 1st one is the hardest after that it's fairly easy.

Laughing took the panel off - easy enough
the speaker is a 6,5' - 20Watts - 4 Ohms made in China, hard mounted on a FOMOCO bracket (oversize 7') with a connector and foam surroundings.
quite an elaborate thing.
I phoned LR spares to ask how much a replacement was - €15 !! Shocked
its dirt cheap !! obviously the speaker quality must be also worth €15 !! Laughing

I bought a replacement anyway (can always keep it as a spare), and am busy investigating my alternatives, to get a slightly better unit in.

obviously I don't want the top of the range speaker. (radio is an entry level) but at least something acceptable

will keep u updated...

Shocked
the spacers to fit an aftermarket speaker cost € 6 each and don't fit 100% over the hole (the hole is 7'), so an adjustment would be needed (extra holes drilled)
then you still need to buy the speakers, which could rattle as the spacers don't fit the original hole (the original has 3 holes at 120 degrees from each other)
i guess at that price and dubious outcome, I am fitting the std speaker for €15, and i know it will be a 100% fit !

not worth the hassle to upgrade.

I will wait next week for the speaker to arrive...

now to fix that rattle in the drivers door ! Whistle
