High Consumptions

Hello people, a question on consumption of my freelander 2.
Is it normal, according to you, an urban consumption (small town, no distance on high speed roads) of 13 liters per 100 kilometers?
I have the automatic transmission and drive in a quiet way.
The Free is a 2009, S version, automatic.
May depend on the EGR valve to clean, or is this normal consumption for this vehicle?
You with the automatic transmission, been around these values?
Sorry for the question, but i have this wonderful car just three months...

Thank you all.

Italy 2010 Freelander 2 TD4_e S Manual Santorini Black

hello quars40

I have a MY 2010 free (the stop / start manual one), and also live in a small town.. but i get 12 - 13 Km /lt (7,5 - 8,5 lt/100 Km)
If i drive with enthusiasm it will go to 10 - 11 Km /lt.
is this a recent thing ?
do you live in a hilly area ? this will increase the consumption considerably...
or else if the car is serviced regularly
I suggest to look for leaks, and perhaps monitor yourself to ascertain wether you are driving with a bit of a lead foot ?

Thumbs Up

Hi,
Yes, I live in a hilly area, but I'm very gentle with the foot Smile and I do not go heavy.
With my previous car, an Alfa 147 JTD, consumption stopped about 12 km per 1 liter.
And the ALFA is not known to be a car that consumes little power.
I think the weight of the freelander mean much, but it seems too much anyway, so I thought the EGR valve.
I also checked the air sensor and it is clean., Big Cry

2008 free, automatic, big city, 15 l/100km
so.... your 13 l/100km doesn't seem unusual to me.
If I don't mistake, the book says 11,2 for automatic, and we all know it's impossible to reach manufacturer's consumption.

Shocked
Really ?

But 11,2 L./100Km, like LandRover says , isn't so bad...better than 13/100 of sure !! Twisted Evil

Very very surprised for 14km/L.
Are you sure, Tandemann ?

I get 22.8mpg in my FL2 SD4 dynamic. I do live in hilly area.
I only get low 30's on a motorway run at 80 to 85 mph.
Not really impressed.

I'm on my third freelander 2 the first, a manual in 2006 averaged 42 mpg the second an auto in 2008 averaged 38 mpg, the third a manual in 2012 averages 40 mpg, i did sheffield to gatwick and back last week, and even with a two hour traffic jam on the m25 I averaged 42.4 for the round trip. Thumbs Up
When I used to tow the caravan I dropped to 28 to 30 mpg though.

I averaged over 30 during the trip to the lakes last year, hard knot pass, wrynose pass etc, to get just 22mpg, something sadly wrong with the car or your driving style.

That's about 21 MPG which is a bit high BUT doing short runs on hills will give you this sort of fuel consumption as others have confirmed.

The FL is a heavy old car that drinks a lot of fuel when the engine is cold and when you have to keep accelerating from stop or up hills. I certainly don't think you have a fault, the terrain you drive in and the sort of journeys you do explain your fuel consumption. The difference between urban driving and long journeys on highways is a big one.

Just for your curiosity:
i just replaced the air filter ( it was a little bit dirty), with a new one, and incredibly i moved from a 15,6 L./100Km to 13.5 L./100km.
Probably old owner doesn't replaced it in a regular maintenance.
I bought the car in this summer, but consumptions are going high each day more.

Since April 2011 I've managed 8.7 litres/100km or 32.49mpg. Lots of short journeys, country lanes with the occasional long motorway run.

Hills and cold starts are a killer with the Freel2;
I guess our fellows in The Netherlands will get comparatively super results .
