Canada 2007 LR2 i6 HSE Auto Tambora Flame

I ordered my LR2 back in December and it was scheduled for the "week 1" production run. I found a Vancouver dealer that happened to have ordered the exact configuration I wanted (Tambora Flame (TF), lighting, PTI, audio, pixel metalic, no nav) so I sort of lucked out. Unfortunately, I couldn't order through my local (Calgary) dealer as they filled up their initial alotment and all their TFs were completely loaded (and out of my price range). The earliest they could have a custom order in was September. Also, the TF colour is a limited run so I may have been stuck with a less flamboyant colour (pun intented).

I've got mine coming to Vancouver with an eta of March 28. The dealer said (as of March 12) that my LR2 was in Halifax but he didn't have the VIN yet. They will have to do PDI and ship it to Calgary so I'm not expecting it until the middle of April but I'm OK with that.

gtc- I've got the LR2 specification sheet and the heated seats (part of the winter package) are included, xenons are not. The MSRPs are as follows:
LR2 SE $44900
Lighting package $1200
Navigation $3200
Personal Telephone Integration System $600
Premium Sound $375
Narvik Black Exterior Paint $600
Pixel Metallic Interior Finisher NC
This is as of Nov 30 2006 so things may have changed.

Some questions for Canadian readers-
Is anybody getting discounts? I got 1K off in Vancouver but Calgary and Edmonton wouldn't budge (I guess everybody (except me) is rich in Alberta so they don't need to discount)
Any word on accessories? I haven't been able to get any info yet.
What's the LR service like in Canada? Any Calgary readers that can comment?

Canada 2007 LR2 i6 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey

Hi Quagmire,

I am awaiting my LR2 also. i ordered back in October and spec'd all the bells and whistles. I have not signed the final sales agreement yet so i cannot comment on discounts, but i suspect that there will be very little for us in the way of discounts. As the brand is new they will want to establish the value of the brand/model and have no incentive to discount. Especially at this early stage in the game when they have people lining up to pre-order them! That said, I will be pushing them hard to give me a fair trade in for my Acura TL.

I was also told that my vehicle is in Halifax, and barring any job action at the railway, I am looking at early April.

Your question about service is in my mind is paramount. We know there will be service issues on a brand new model like this, and so you need to be very comfortable with your dealer. LR is not exactly known for their stellar quality record either. I think a common theme in this forum in the UK and around the world is that your satisfaction level is tightly associated with the quality of the dealer.

I have researched the dealer in Edmonton in depth, and i am very happy with what I have heard. I know three people in town that drive LRs and all of them raved about the local service. This let's me sleep at night knowing i will be dropping close to $60k including GST.

That would be my only red flag if i were you. Buy purchasing your vehicle in Vancouver you may not have the same level of commitment to service at the Calgary dealer as you might have had by buying local. I have to wonder also, why you would want to pay an additional 7% BC sales tax????? Surely you could have bought in AB and put this money towards extra features? (by the way if the total value exceeds $55k they will charge you 10% PST + 6% GST...that is a lot of money going to fund the socialist utopia in BC....Gag) Censored

My 2c

GG

At least you have more leverage when things go wrong as you can bring your sales rep into the mix to advocate for you Idea

What? LR's service less than stellar? I've never heard of such a thing. Whistle

I was a bit concerned about buying out of town but I needed a different vehicle for my family. We are expecting within a month and my manual truck is not really suitable for my wife to drive. I was going to compromise and get an X3 but the BMW dealership was, how shall I say, not very accomodating (he basically escorted me off the lot for asking for a discount Confused ). I don't think I would have been happy with the X3 anyway as I actually need to take this vehicle off road.

When I was talking to the sales guy in Calgary he did allude to receiving higher level of service if I bought the vehicle there. I am hoping it was more of a sales technique than a warning. I will let you know soon.

As far as the PST goes, as long as you don't register the vehicle in BC, you don't pay PST. I confirmed this with the dealer before I bought. I've also personally done this before and it works fine. In fact, I bought a vehicle in BC right before I moved to Alberta (from BC) and found that I needed an Alberta driver's license to pull this off. I then found out that my insurance company would jack up my rates if I was uninsured for 30 days (it was day 30). So I bought the car, ran to Calgary, got the license, registered and insured the car and came back to BC to pick up the car all in one day. I saved myself nearly $2000. Hurray for the land of Ralph Thumbs Up Long live the Ki- what he quit? Censored

I'm glad you had a good sales experience in Edmonton. I got the hard sell when I called. No chit chat, he just asked for deposit. I thought he'd at least joked about the Flames going out in the first round and the Oilers going to the finals. The guy in Vancouver was much friendlier (and did want to talk hockey).

Quagmire, gibbergump - thanks for the post, and info!

It's a shame about the servicing/purchasing; I'm pretty sure the dealers still make good $$ on servicing warranty claims, so this simply doesn't make sense to me. We bought our Freelander at an independent (and very shady!) dealer and have taken it to the local LR dealer for servicing - the dealer has been great, providing loaners (usually rentals) or taxi chits for all servicing; we're never without a vehicle, and they are generally professional and polite. Right after buying the Freelander, we took it in for a 40k service ($400!), and we mentioned we had just purchased the vehicle and asked for a good once over. They certainly did one - the warranty bill for that service was $5k, all picked up by LR. The excellent service is one of the reasons we're considering the LR2....
