Urgent Advice/Help Needed.....

Evening......right,

As some of you may be aware my freelander was one of the Black Editions that needed the heater software update to stop it throwing a wobbly. I went into my local dealer on Wednesday for this to happen. Whilst there they took it upon themselves to top up/re-gas my aircon.

Upon driving away I heard a very obvious 'spooling down' squeaky squeal/hum between gear changes, loudest in 3rd gear. This only occurred with the aircon switched on. Took it straight back and they said it was the aircon compressor. This has been replaced today but.....the noise is still there just quieter now!!!

Most threads on here tend to point towards the compressor, this has just made it slightly quieter.

They are now scratching their heads. The freelander is going back on Monday for another day of prodding and poking. Has anyone got any advice or ideas to offer? Hoping someone has had this problem and can help!!!

Ok, I've done some research which has thrown up the following;

- Condenser fan mount behind rad.
- When facing downhill or uphill the blower fan bearings are loaded more and if failing will whine.
- Aircon clutch, noisy on over-run like a transmission whine.

Not sure how much of the above would be solved by a new compressor. I can replicate the noise in 1st gear when switching the Aircon on, but after that completely intermittent and almost does it when it wants.

LR have acknowledged the problem and have said they will continue to try and sort it. 2013 FL2 - Black Edition Auto

I did 180 mile round trip yesterday going to the CLA game fair with the AC on all the time and it was silent,on another note I had a look at the new FL2 and asked the lady there if it was keyless as there was no docking station,she said no but then said she had no idea still got a free coffee just for showing them my key,I hope you get it sorted.

I'd ask if they filled it correctly.... full there should be no noise and as I'm getting quite intermet with the AC at the mo I believe its only the compressor thats moving as such.

Empty or full - no sound... half empty squeals like a piggy.

I'm in Northern Spain at the moment so I'm using my AC a lot, and for long periods of time when going down the motorway. It has been great and cooled off the car very quickly and I've heard nothing from the compressor. Yours sounds like it needs to be looked at again.

Thanks all, I'm confident it's correctly filled with oil and gas. They have even included a dye to show any leaks in the future.

With it being intermittent I'm leaning towards a fan bearing or similar, it's something really daft, sounds like something on overrun after being powered up. 2013 FL2 - Black Edition Auto
