2012 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Alaska White
Engine on occasions starts on only 2 cylinders

I have a 2012 GS Freelander 2 manual and over the last year it has started up (I think on 2 cylinders) and shook violently, you switch it off and then restart it everything is ok, this has happened 6 times, I have posted this problem before and I know there are other Freelanders out there that have experienced the same problem, at this moment in time Land Rover are trying to find out what the problem is, the garage has replaced the fuel pump housing and fitted a non return valve (I have been told), but the problem is still there, what I would like to know from the members who have experienced this problem to tell me is there car a manual or automatic. Will wait your replies Thanks Colin Sad

United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto Santorini Black

Just thinking spur of the moment .
Next time it happens is there excess smoke out the exhaust?
If no then it might suggest the injectors responsible are not actually injecting.
If yes to smoking then it would suggest that it's injecting but not 'igniting' and the smoke is unburnt fuel.
It might help your service guys if you have these observations; it would also help if you ran the engine longer too see if it cleared, that might suggest air in the injector pipes. Once basically 'bled' the engine does self bleed the last air present until smooth running begins.
If you are not under warranty and its injector failure then I do have a set available in the for sale section of the forum .
PS this post is UK summertime ; for anybody reading this in wintertime as an old post then misfiring and smoke from cold suggests duff heaterplugs.

I have had this twice now. Its quite scary, once on a cold start the other on a hot. The vehicle shakes itself quite violently. you switch off and restart and everything is okay?
Is it a random thing or should it be reported and fixed under warranty? 2012 GS Converted-

2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Dynamic Auto Fuji White

Mine was in last week for this to be looked at (and a few other problems).

Like sparkyfletch its only happened twice. The service guy said that there's a bulletin for it and that a new throttle body had been fitted - still have a few months warranty left so hope thats the end of that!
