Oily wheels

Ten days ago I washed my 2011 GS paying particular attention to the wheels. A day later I drove the car to the airport and left it in the long stay car park for a week.

Since returning home I have driven approx. 130 miles.

Yesterday I noticed that both front wheels are covered in a thick black oily substance, that smells of diesel.

The offside wheel is the worst of the two.

Any ideas as to what may have caused this?

My first thought was the DPF has dumped its innards out. Does the DPF release its contents behind the front wheels?

I think the DPF empties into the sump if unfinished.

Interesting. I thought the DPF emptied through the exhaust system.

Thanks for that.

Is it only the front wheels? If it was on bodywork aswell it would sound as if you had driven through some spilt diesel/oil. Strange. Confused

Only on the fronts. Offside worse than the nearside. Rest of the car is very clean.

Imagine spraying the wheels with a liberal dose of WD40 and then throw a bag of brake dust on to the oil. That's how I can best describe it.

Thanks for the interest.
