2013 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Fuji White
Centre console cigar lighter power issue

Hi all,

I seem to have shorted out the power from my centre console cigar lighter in my MY13 XS. I managed to drop my USB thumb drive with metal body into the cigar lighter, and I no longer get power from that socket.

I checked the manual and tried to diagnose which fuse I had popped, but can't find it. The front cigar lighter is fine, as is the cigar lighter socket in the boot. I still can access the USB drive fine. Any ideas as to which fuse I have popped? For clarity, here's a pic of the cigar lighter in question (the manual is very ambiguous about front/rear cigar lighters and fuses - this is very definitely the cigar lighter in the centre console between the driver and passenger seat):

Damn, that's the aux heater water pump in the MY13 sadly (I've no idea why they thought to change the fuse designations year on year).

What's the actual description of that fuse in your handbook? Might help me track it down by description rather than number.

Oh yes, I should mention for all other MY13 owners, there's a misprint in the handbook : spare fuses are in the engine compartment fuse box, NOT the passenger compartment fuse box!

Thanks for the quick response anyway Wizking

It's the "cigar lighter" fuse on pre my13

The electrical system on the MY13 car is nothing like the MY12 and before, however, it is similar to the Evoque, maybe post on their forum for a fuse number, it just may be what you need?

That was a good idea. Just surfed that up, but unfortunately there must be some slight differences as the most likely candidate listed for Evoque "Accessory socket - cubby box" the fuse for that doesn't have a fuse in the FL2.

Edit: There is an F55 Aux socket (rear console), that's common to the Evoque and FL2, but I've already replaced that with no joy. I wonder if I've burnt out the wiring itself? 20A does seem quite an excessive fuse value for a fag lighter.

Thanks for looking, appreciate that. Looks like I'm going to have to resort to calling the dealer. Be nice to avoid that though if I can figure it out myself (or with the internet).

Front to back it will be F52, F55 and F63 in the passenger fusebox, all 20 amp rating. There will be another higher rated fuse upline to this but unfortunately I don't know the number, and also it would be feeding other circuits that you would know about if blown so should be alright.

When my socket blew in similar circumstances, the fuse I changed was amongst one of the fuses in the boot.

Sorry, I'm not near my manual to find out which one it was.

Mine is a 2008 model anyway so by the sounds of it it may be different but it could still be amongst the fuses in the boot.

Those were my prime suspects yesterday, so I've rechecked them again now I've got a working multimeter. Unfortunately all fine. Very frustrating.

Thanks. I checked all the 15 and 20 amp fuses in the boot also, although by eye only. Mightbhavebto check with the meter also.

I've taken a look in the manual - note: 2008 model.

I changed Fuse FA6 15 amp (Blue) "Rear Accessory Socket" in the boot.

Perhaps swap this fuse for a good 15 amp working fuse or spare fuse and test the socket.

It may be in another place for your model but the description may be the same.

Having just come across the fuses section in the manual (yes, sad though it seems I am reading through it) for my MY13 XS it says

F52 Cigar Lighter Front
F53 (Not designated in manual ?)
F54 (Not designated in manual ?)
F55 Aux Socket Rear Console
F63 Aux socket Luggage Compartment
F64 (Not designated in manual ?)
F65 (Not designated in manual ?)

Would F55 be the fuse you are looking for? I know you say the AUX input is working OK, but we don't have that same input in the rear, yet they still use the term "Aux socket", so could it simply be the wording they've used that has thrown us off the scent, so to speak?

I am sure you've read and checked these too, but just thought I'd post anyway. If you do find out which it is do let us know, if only out of curiousity. Thumbs Up Joanne

Thanks for looking, but sadly there's nothing like that in my boot fuse box. It appears that I've tested now every 20 amp and 15 amp fuse in the passenger and boot fuse boxes, and they're all fine.

I'm at a loss to explain what's popped and where.

Just seen your post. I've had the same problem. The fuse is the 20A F63 in the passenger box. Its shown as luggage compartment socket but will fix the socket you refer to. I think both sockets are on the same fuse.
