I just ordered Romik nerf bars from a local shop. They are made of T-304 stainless steel 3" tubing. I will post pictures once I'm done installing them.

Others report messing with lights just does not work out. Stick to original build and bills are bad enough if it goes tits up, adding leds here and there is asking for double trouble.

Moral of this story is buy the model you can afford and be happy as trying to up-rate to the model you could not afford may end in tears. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Rear pads - Electronic H/Brake

For the first time ever I changed the rear pads on an electronic H/Brake.

The notes I copied off his site months ago worked well to release it but you still need to push back the piston before hanging the caliper free to change the pads.

Genuine Girling pads for £27.30 from Andrew Page. Pads did just over 27,000 miles and were ready for the change.

Ensure its in park or neutral and the park brake deactivated and ignition turned on.

1. Press and hold the parking brake switch in the release position.

2. Wait 2 seconds

3. Press and hold the accelerator pedal in the wide open throttle position.

4. Wait 2 seconds

5. Turn ignition off and on immediately whilst still finger on park button and foot on throttle.

6. An audible noise will confirm service mode, it will also be displayed on dash.

You will hear the brake motors activate for a while.

Deactivation

with ignition on.

1. Press and hold the parking brake switch in the apply position.

2. Wait 2 seconds

3. Press and hold the accelerator pedal in the wide open throttle position.

4. Wait 2 seconds

5. Turn ignition off and on again. keeping finger on park button and foot on throttle.  FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

United Kingdom

Spent an amazing week doing the North Coast 500, in Scotland, and in the end we managed a total of 1300 miles, home to home. If you've never been, or are unsure whether to do this, give it a go, you won't be disappointed. Every bend, every brow on the road, gave another incredible view. The Freelander was amazing, even managing the Pass of the Cattle to Applecross during a snowstorm (interesting!!), so glad we had 4WD.

Today must have been 'Black Tubes Day' ....... I got mine yesterday off eBay.

Fitted today, I wanted to have the tubes hug the body, so I modified the brackets, only by around 2Cms.

I think the tubes sit too far into the underneath of the floor, so I will extend the fixed tube brackets, without the tubes looking like side steps ! I am more looking for the rock/tree slider effect, so each side may well be 'Dual Tubes' ??

black letter inserts rear handle

I tried the chrome version first. This wasn't a succes ; peeling back the paper after fixing took part of the 'chrome' cover with it ending in chrome/black letters.

Luckily the seller didn't struggle. I opted for the black ones as they have one layer less, less chance for problems I thought. Mr. Green

Now removing these letters is a mayor pain. Its a laminate of plastics and foam/glue, so you end scraping it off with a screwdriver as heating/spirit didn't do much.
Obviously you skid and scratch the surrounding paint. Not too bad though.

Now I have it fitted and it looks good. Only : its not 'black' but more smoke/gun metal/ anthracite kind of glimmer/colour.
It doesn't look bad, but its not what I would expect from "black" .

But I'm not taking them off anymore Embarassed

Yawn

I also had my 'own' "SV" sticker made from zilverwrapping by a printshop ; they actually cut out the tiny letters in the edge with a robotknife...

The size is now D90mm , a bit too large.

But the 'robot knife' wouldn't do any smaller letters in the edges. Size D60mm would have looked better I guess !
