Climate Control Fault

Hi, I tried searching the forum but haven't come up with a similar fault.

We have a nearly 3 year old freelander (we we have had for a couple of months) and occasionaly the climate control goes a bit odd. (Done it about 5 times in 2 months)

With the same temperature selected on both sides 19C, the passenger side will be blowing out the correct coolish temperature air yet the drivers side starts blowing really warm air. If you turn the drivers side temperature knob down really low it still blows out hot air.

When you turn off the car and restart it, it works fine.

We took it to the dealership today, but of course as its an intermitant fault they couldn't find any fault. Has anybody heard of this fault before and know the likely cause. I'm suspecting its either the temperature sensor on the drivers side or the module that controls the heating system.

I really want to get it sorted before the warrenty runs out. Although i'm hopping that as the fault was reported before 3 years we will be covered if it doesn't get fixed before the middle of december when the car is 3 years old.

Its hard to give a definitive answer to your question, It could be a faulty sensor or indeed a vent sticking at a certain point.
I sure the vents are opperated electronically. Turning of the system then back should do a self check, this could be the reason it works after a restart.
Unless you have an expensive test meter so you can plug in to the ECU when the fault is on then you will have to keep popping into landrover in the hope they can witness it.

Have had occasional problems but did not notice if the temperature differed between sides. Once stalled engine while making a quick 3 point turn after which the air con blew hot, but ok after restart. Occasionally it has blown hot when I was expecting cool and vice versa. Going in for 2nd service Thursday and have asked them to check it.

Well, just a comment: perhaps the problem is you're turning one of the temperature knobs "too far" down? The temperature difference (according to the manual) is allowed to be max 2 degrees for the system to react, if I understand the manual correctly...?
What I was thinking, if the difference left/right is too big on the settings, maybe the system will go fCensored you and stay on the same temp? It's never too late to learn something new...

There's a total of four electric motors that operate the flap linkages, maybe one is a bit iffy. Exclamation

Bbjoca, It happens when the temperature is set the same on both sides. Just one comes out cold and the other hot. MY10 Freelander 2 XS

It could be the flaps that are out of sync.
From what I am remembering, there is a calibration procedure for the motorized flaps.
It implies the followings:
1. Switch off the ignition.
2. Press both recirculation and econ buttons. The most lower two buttons.
3. While keeping the buttons pressed, switch/turn on the car/ignition.
4. Keep pressing the buttons up until the one of the leds are flashing. I don't remember which led will flash but it will be obvious.
5. Release the buttons.
If it will not flash, then could be a mechanical or electronic problem.
Disclaimer: I didn't try it myself, it is a procedure I've seen on the Russian forum.

I've had the heaters blow cold whilst set on max during a long journey. But an engine restart after stopping for fuel turned the heat back on again?!

I experienced this problem shortly after I purchased my new free2 my13.
Drove to the shops with both A/C settings on 22 deg C. Everything fine. Stopped for a few minutes and restarted. Drivers side A/C started blowing hot air while passenger side remained cool. Tried everything to get it to cool. Adjusting temp knobs, fan speeds, A/C on off etc, nothing worked. Stopped the engine and restarted, everything back to normal.
Hasn't happened again but only had the car for several weeks. If it does it again ill have it seen to.

Perhaps the computer has a fault or sensors. "I'm a fuel injected suicide machine"
