A reply at last re alternate Whispbar fitting

I emailed Whispbar in Oz re the possibility of obtaining the "bolt on" foot kit for use on cars with panoramic sunroof. Today I received a reply from the Roof Box Company (in UK) as follows:

"Please accept our apologies for the delay in replying to your enquyiry of 17th March.

Although the 631 has been released I am afraid this not a kit that we will be stocking in the UK.

In addition. The vehicle fixpoints on the Land Rover are too close to the panoramic roof and therefore we would not recommend this fitting for your vehicle.

The Roof Box Company
"

I think that leaves us with clamp fitting only for those with sunroofs! Sad 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

I see that Whispbar have finally released their specific roof-bar feet / fixing kit for the Freelander 2.. but only in Australia, it seems.

I've emailed their UK distributor with no reply yet..

I put a set of the roof bars on about 2 months ago and i have to say you can not hear a thing from them, I have the K334 (i think) foot pack and it was nice and easy to install.
On the down side these bars are extra extra wide, I got a box of the net and get 75mm "U" brackets but they did not fit so i ended up having to make my own using flat steel bar and through bolts and locking nut.

I think the Whispbars look much better than the OE Land Rover ones, which IMHO are much too tall and out of scale with the rest of the car.

I read on the Whispbar website that their bars are wider than others - can't remember what their suggested fix is though Embarassed

Thanks for putting up those pics - really useful Thumbs Up

I was thinking the same thing, i have a pan sun roof and it opens with out a problem.
I think it even makes the car look better with them on than off

I have the Whispbars with the clamp fitting. Ok with the sunroof. As I said above, however, they are not doing a gutter (ditch) fit kit for UK. The sunroof will foul the inner edge of the uprights anyway. The K631 instructions do say "Some glass/panoramic roofs and radio antennae may not be able to be used when the product is fitted". Pity as there is a better weight capacity if bolted on. The bars are wide but I have used the slots on the upper face to fit inverted pan head bolts rather than ugly wide clamps. Much neater. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

According to the whispbar.co.uk website the k631 fitting kit (which allows you to use the FL2 mounting point)s is available in the UK. Does anyone have these bars with this fitting kit?
Thanks

That's a big turnaround. Last communication I got from Roofbox (see my entry above in March this year) was that they would not be stocking this. Have you checked stock?

Well I got as far as checkout... £24.95. The only thing I am not sure about is how it looks without the roof bars installed. When I looked on the whispbar.co.uk website there was fitting instructions and it seems there is some kind of screw in plug to fill the holes, but I am not sure how this would look.

The 631 fitting is really for semi permanent fit. If you remove them there will be an extra screw visible each side to finish it off. I have the clamp fitting at present. The 631 will not be compatible with sunroof though.

I have a Skiguard roof box fitted at present. Removed the sunroof fuse to be on the safe side as it is pretty close.
