England 2013 Freelander 2 TD4_e GS Auto Sumatra Black
Yorkshire 3 Peaks

I've been roped into doing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks walk in May, its to raise money for a cancer charity that helped a lad I work with last year. Has anyone done this walk before? Can anyone suggest suitable walking gear that will be needed? Also, any advise on the training aspect? I'm not very unfit but could be fitter!

my mates did it a couple of years back, they said the route was quite well walked and nothing too taxing under foot when trying to talk me into walking

they wore walking shoes, walking trainers and a couple wore walking boots.... I chose to stay at home as I could not drive it Laughing

they were all active people, riding bikes, walking dogs, going to the gym and they all did it with just the old bit of cramp and blisters

training wise, I would say lots of walking and cardio work at the gym and a healthly diet and build up the carbs or whatever you need the few days before

or course your doing it for charity, so you could sit on your backside with a xbox, go out to the pub the night before and people will still donate whether you complete it or not, I think a suitable drop out point will be near the pub on the route Whistle Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Me and the wife have walked it about 8 years ago and it is challenging. Roughly 25 miles round trip from Horton and I believe you can still clock in and out to record your time officially, we did it in 10 hours 16 minutes.

Three to climb with Penyghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. Everyone says Ingleborough is the hardest ascent and I agree but probably because you will be knackered on the last climb. I wanted to turn left after coming down Whernside (really steep descent) and walk back on the road after seeing a pub right next to the path Embarassed

I have never trained but always do stretches before any walking, the muscles do need warming before setting out, alternatively the start is 'gentle' for a few miles in readiness for the ascent in as it plays hell with the knees and ankles, wear ankle boots for full support as a twist of the ankle is a reality and good socks, even then we both had blisters at the end.

If you catch it on a good sunny day then that alone will spur you on, there's nothing worse walking for miles not being able to enjoy the scenery that goes with it.

2011 Freelander 2 TD4_e XS Manual Baltic Blue

Did it last June and the leg from pen-y-Ghent was very muddy - search the net for up to date reports. You will need to do some training, preferable some uphill training! Can get quite cold on top so check the weather forecast and go prepared.
