Good man Thumbs Up
Bet you've seen some hapennings in your time there.
I started in the industry in '72 and saw some bad times; 3 day week, red Robbo at Longbridge etc.
Glad it's beginning to turn around for some plants.
I do miss Longbridge though, it could have had everything on one site. It had the magic of Stanley Edge and Herbert Austin there. So bloody sad it's gone.
As I said, long live................
Too many have gone. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

You'll be waiting for a long time then because the DC100 isn't going to be the new defender and it isn't going to be production vehicle anyway.

Autocar, yesterday, seems to think some form of it will:

http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars...production

Besides, whether it's called the Defender or not, I enjoyed the look of it, even if it was a bit radical. I like an SUV that looks like an SUV. The next-gen LR2 as shown here, like the Evoque, is striking and beautiful, but it doesn't look like something I want to drive on the beach or through the woods. It just doesn't suit me. The DC100 "had me at hello." Very Happy CAR HISTORY

I don't want big rims, I want big wheels with lots of rubber. The DC100 has the same type of wheels....doesn't anyone go off road anymore?

It's getting tougher to manufacture purpose-built vehicles in today's modern nanny state, given all the regulations automakers face. Although Mercedes has managed to make the G-Wagen legal in both Europe and the US, and Hummer made the H1 legal in the US (don't know if they ever sold that in Europe).

Still, those vehicles were/are sold at an astronomical cost - much higher than what I suspect LR wants to charge for the next Defender. CAR HISTORY

Unfortunately, fewer and fewer are doing so. I'm sure there are a number of factors, but the cost of repairs, the cost of fuel (whether set by the market or excessive taxation), as well as a lack of legal off-roading territory (once again, a combination of the fault of irresponsible off-roaders and the government cow-towing to the environmental lobby) is slowly killing the opportunity to access the Great Outdoors via automobile.

I'm lucky to live in an area where we have a high number of off-roading opportunities. But many are not. Sad CAR HISTORY

Seems not Confused When this forum started plenty of Freel2'ers were offing it, but one after another they rather seemed to prefer "detailing" their bodies and have forgotten what abilities of our Freelys realy have under the skin.

On a recent trip to the UK, it was quite astounding to see how many "urban" FL2's (and other 4x4's) were on the asphalt and wondered what the was the point of owning such a vehicle there realy was. If they dont get harsh winters, dont go off-road, probably never "have to" use their TR, it would seem the only reason to own such a large heavy, expensive but "detailed" vehicle is purley for status reasons. I guess LR have realised this a long time ago and therefore the Evoke has been born and soon a similar "Poshed-up" Freelander 3 and Defender replacement no doubt Wink .

Still its good to have development and changes so I am wondering how electric 4x4 vehicles will cope off-road driving in the future Question 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

yes some of us do take her off road.
But the majority buy a 4x4 so that IF they are in an accident they stand a better chance of walking away.
Nice to know you can make it home if the weather turns bad, but then again the roads are likely to be blocked by less capable vehicles - and useless drivers.

PS whats detailing? is that when you take the exhaust guard off to dislodge the mud? Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

I use my cat alot for fishing and for my dog, So it gets its feet dirty a little bit. The problem I have with taking it off-road is actually finding somewhere to go. It ain't easy 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE

I'd love to do the LR Experience or similar in my own car, but they won't let you do it.
Also, don't want to unnecessarily smash my car to bits or smash things off it.
Just a challenging but safe course would be great.
