Key fob dead

Good morning all.I read in my manual that its a good idea to interchange between the two key fobs to keep the internal battery charged. So i thought i would start using it. It was flat as a pancake, and would not unlock the car.So i unlocked using the one that works ok.Then using the flat fob in the ignition slot. This worked ok.
But i've been unlocking the car this way and using the flat one to start the car for three weeks now. And it still don't seem to be charging the fob. What i have noticed that there is no evidence of an electriacal contact on the fob to enable it to be charged. Does this mean that the battery is knackererd ? If so can i buy i new battery to put in myself.Or do i have to take it to a LR dealer to do and charge me an arm and a leg to fit?

The fob will inductively charge in the dock, the key has to be thr correct way round for this to happen though, with the buttons uppermost.
It is possible to crack open the case and replace the battery, it takes a little time and patience but can be done, a few members on here have done it, I know SimonT did this and he has some pictures in his gallery.

The key is charged in much the same way as a step down transformer works by induction.
In order for the battery to recharge it needs to have a little something left in it to work.
If the battery is compleatly drained then its nackered.
As tas has stated its possible to replace the battery which is very much cheaper than a replacment key fob.

I don't suppose anyone knows roughly how long a Key would typically need to stay docked in order to become fully charged, would they?

Any help on this gratefully received... Foraging near Gaydon....

Recharge it by putting the key on your electric tooth brush holder / charger. Thats a induction loop, I keep my reserve key topped up this way, no probs.

I bought my battery from ebay - think I made an 'offer' and got it for 」7.50 (or 」8.50) including postage

LR dealers won't sell these batteries - just the new fob's 2002 Honda VFR800
