Looking after your battery

I'm now travelling to work and coming home in the dark on a journey no longer than 8 miles, every few weeks throughout the winter I'll help ensure I have no faults pop up due to low battery voltage.
My CTEK charger just plugs into the boot 12v outlet for a couple of hours at the weekend and keeps the battery at full charge. Thumbs Up and as you can see, it is at 'step 4' at least 80% charge but needs to be at 'step 7' for a fully charged battery.

8 miles is plenty to recharge the battery, no need to extra charge

however I have two of those chargers permanently on the batteries of my standby generator and they do not dry out the cells like the previous chargers did so no harm can be done using them.

my previous batteries died due to age and repeated cell drying from the older chargers, at £200 a battery buying the ctek chargers was a no brainer really, plus Im more confident the gennie will start when needed and keep 100,000 chickens alive in a power cut At work

You may be right CG, but as you said it does no harm in keeping the battery in full charge especially during the winter. The charger is used regularly to keep the electric fence batteries charged so a few hours plugged into the 12v outlet can only be good.

I suppose its building up to a busy time for you, the noise of a 100,00 chickens ....... and then silence Sad Do you say goodbye to them individually Question

As I use my work van all week my car is not used that often. It can be parked up for days or some times weeks at a time with out being used and so far never had a battery problem yet. Starts first time every time and never needed to use a seperate battery charger other than the cars charging system over the past four years.
should I have a problem I have a cordless battery engine starter that ive used on other peoples cars who have had a flat battery Thumbs Up
