Antifreeze / Coolant leak with pictures.

The other day i had the low coolant warning on the dash. I checked the level and in fact it sits below the min line. So I went ahead and removed the engine cover and found this:

So If I am correct there was a recall for this hose due to a leak. I had the LR2 services by LR in May and they replaced the hose. I am now out of warranty.

Has anyone replaced this before?
Easy to do? Cuatro Por Cuatro

If it's part of a recall you don't need warranty... Had a Pontiac Fiero recalled for free maybe 10 years after warranty was over... 1973 Land Rover Series 3 88''

Don't worry if its covered under warranty or not. It is a very inexpensive fix. The coolant hose pictured is cheap and it should only take 10 - 20 minutes to replace it.

I had this fixed (on my 2'nd LR2 /FL2) in early 2011. If the hose is not replaced the coolant will continue to leak onto the alternator directly below it causing it to fail prematurely. To diagnose this issue. Look for a faint sweet (coolant) smell after switching off the hot engine. You can also just pull up the engine cover and take a look at the seal of the hose. Ocassional problem with all vehicles with this i6 engine not just the LR2/Freelander. Don't know the cause and it never happened with my first LR2.

Possibly related to this older post - LR2 3.2 I6 HSE Alternator Problem by Garyc.LR2. I was going to reply but never got around to taking any pictures.

jutrem,

Thank you for your input. I called LR and they said I can bring it in and they will make it right. Very nice of them. The issue is that they are 3 hours away from me and i wont be able to go in another 3 weeks.
Should i just order the part and tackle it myself?

Funny that I answer this post earlier...Mine was smoking a little steam under the hood yesterday night... Will have a look at it this week-end. Mine still under warranty but dealer is a 5 hour drive from me.... 10 hour round trip. I think I will fix it myself. 1973 Land Rover Series 3 88''

Sometimes you guys make me feel lucky.
Within a 1 hour drive of home there are at least half a dozen LR dealers. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

One is dreadfull.
One in Manchester, sales have treated me fine but others have reported less success.
Knutsford and Chester open Saturday morning for parts Very Happy both treat me with curtesy, and seem to value my custom.
Stockport has been great for service and sales.
I haven't tried to ones in Nelson or Preston Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Do you have a Volvo or Ford dealer closer to you? You can order the part (or have them order the part) and get them to replace it.

I know this is an old thread. But I saw it and perked up because I have to top off my coolant level about every 4 or 5 months! Is that normal, or is that because it is dripping out underneath do you think? I have an '08 HSE. Thanks!
