Taztastic,
Hadn't realised the location of the air intake, thanks for posting Thumbs Up Only had the Freelander for a month now & our first Landrover. Won't be jet washing in that area in future. Landy has now gone.

The airbox does include a new filter and the top of the unit, so works out at about £30 (from a dealer, dan may be cheeper) when you subtract the cost your saving getting the new filter.

If there are people that find its missing might escalate it to land rover as this really should be getting checked at services...

Is there anyway to add a poll to the topic?

Was thinking about having year options and a fine / missing for each one?

i.e.
57 Plate - All in order
57 Plate - Missing

Going to create another thread and add a poll so if a mod could merge them that would be great.

If anyone could take a picture while they are checking theirs it might be handy.

Jon

Edit: Here is a link to the poll http://www.freel2.com/forum/post155848.html#155848 Freelander 2, 2014 Dynamic SD4 Santorini Black

The title and question is a little confusing...
What to check? If the airbox is there or it's missing ? Laughing Laughing Laughing

Seriously, that valve you're talking about, in my opinion, it has no importance if it's there or not.
Because it's before the filter, it's too small and it's very well "hidden"/protected.
You believe that water can insinuate inside the air filter box through there?
Possible, but because of the place of that orifice and its size, the water that can enter through there it is in no way comparable with the water that can enter through the real wing intake.
The wing intake is way, way larger and more exposed to rain than that pointing down small orifice, below the hood and behind the headlight...

Since my first FL2 didn't have the plastic part from the filter box to the side vent, im sure it can do without a small bung, even though that one did have one, as a little wading got my filter wet once

Alex i think its down to the bung not draining correctly, than allowing the water in Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I know, I was just kidding...

And one more thing...
Even if several drops of water enters the intake...
When they'll pass the turbine, because of the turbine speed and temperature they'll be fine atomized.
And in a way will help combustion.
Did you hear about the water injection systems?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_injection_%28engines%29
I know is for gasoline engines, but a few grams of fine atomized water can even improve the performance and help clean the carbon deposits when they, the drops of water, will break down in the main components, hydrogen and oxigen during burning cycle...

It could also be very well the problem described here:
http://www.freel2.com/forum/post155663.html#155663
With the CKP sensor that get corroded around terminals because of the water ingress...

All I know is mine was missing, I didn't go through any floods only puddles on the left hand side of the car yet my air filter was saturated to the point it was restricting air flow. Freelander 2, 2014 Dynamic SD4 Santorini Black
