Air Con Leak :(

Just went to get my air con re-gassed as it didn't feel very cool, only 485g came out and it should be 740g they then checked to see if there was any uv dye showing and there was Sad

I will attache a picture in a few mins bit looks to be a crack in the joins on the pipes that are just behind the drivers side headlight, has anyone else had this / know a rough cost for a fix its a Jan 2008 so its out of warenty now...

Looks like the place where the pipes join to the radiator. There is a small manifold with two o rings, the joint is secured using two 6mm set screws. more importantly the manifold is fastened to the car by a single set screw, if this is missing the joint can flex and will crack the pipes. If you are lucky it will be the radiator that fractures - cost from a dealer in the region of £600 = 2.5 hours work, + radiator, +refilling.
Cost if you do it yourself, two refill kits from Halfords, and a radiator from ebay - all in around £120, takes a lot longer than 2.5 hours on the driveway.

ebay radiator item was eBay Item No. 230489231730 = £50

Was beaten severely when an apprentice - set screws are threaded full length, bolts have an unthreaded shoulder between the head and the threaded section. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

But you mustnt let the gas escape into the atmostphere, it would upset your neighbours greenhouse.

It wouldn't upset the greenhouse because it's a greenhouse gas especially made for greenhouses Laughing ______________________

If you look closely there are two orange dots, thats the uv dye that has leaked out, it was toped up before it was noticed and had dropped from 740g to 480g in 8 weeks.

take it to any shop who works on AC systems - they evacuate the system and open the joint to check/replace the O-rings..pretty easy job which should take about one hour, more important they can vacuum the system after repair is done.If you are unsure where exactly the leak is the good old soapy water works well Smile
