Judder when pulling away

Hi everyone! Hope you are all well.

Been having an intermittent judder when pulling away in my 07 td4 manual. It is only when I am letting the clutch out. Feels kind of like a bit of a slip/flutter in the transmission somewhere. There is no slip through the power bands.

Was wondering what you all thought it might be. Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated

Many thanks.

United Kingdom 2012 Freelander 2 SD4 GS Auto Baltic Blue

Hi Iain,

My MY11 did this as well. It all started when I burnt the clutch trying to mount a pavement ( Exclamation )

Went back to the dealer on numerous occasions with me trying to replicate for a tech. In the end they replaced the clutch assembly under warranty but the judder came back within a few weeks, so maybe even the DMF had damage to it.

I ended up concluding that the clutch assembly just isnt man enough for the job, so would suggest that you look to replace it with a more robust assembly.

If I still had the manual and was outside of warranty then i think this would be a good option:

Its mentioned in a thread here along with other good stuff about the clutch slipping:

Also, have you burnt your clutch at any point?

Hope it helps!

Reinforced clutch - Freelander 2 TD4 845.00 EUR (670 GBP)

The Freelander 2 has amazingly good road characteristics. Even a trailer he is very well suited. In both application areas it may cause high loads on the clutch because the Freelander does not have a reduction. Therefore we offer the powerful clutch. It is handmade in Germany from motorsport components and a garnished with a higher coefficient of friction and high temperature resistance. The pressure plate has a higher by 20% pressure. This means that more torque can be transmitted without the clutch slipping. And the service life is extended. The set consists of the clutch disc and pressure plate. Assembly 74 AW.

Thanks for the info parallax. I have still got a bit of extended LR warranty left, so hopefully they'll sort it for me. My worry is that they'll claim wear+tear, but it's only done 60k and only 12k of that has been in the 2yrs I've owned it. Don't remember ever burning the clutch.

Growing up I was a massive LR nut, getting all the magazines etc and finally got this as my first LR just under 2yrs ago and had nothing but problems. Feel gutted and let down Big Cry . Don't know if I could bring myself to but another.

Thanks again for the reply mate As a man thinketh, in his heart so is he

Yes I felt exactly that way, and always dreamt of finally owning a Land Rover. Have to say that owning the SD4 has brought all that back, and I am now a very happy customer. Maybe time to go for a MY13? Wink 2012 DISCOVERY 4 GS AUTO ORKNEY GREY

Know how you feel. After many years and many cars I finally bought my dream car brand new - a Disco TDi. Worst car I ever owned. Can't actually think of anything that didn't go wrong (even the doors wouldn't shut!). Swore never to own another, but came back to LR by a series of accidents and coincidences. Had two Discos since and now on my first FR2 and 'tis the best of the lot! Love it. Sometimes you just get a bad one unfortunately Crying or Very sad

I certainly seem to have bought a dog, that's for sure. It's booked in for next week. Any advice from anyone if they reject it under warranty? If they do, I think I'll go buy a Land Cruiser Sad As a man thinketh, in his heart so is he

My advice - Send an email to the dealer principle for a private discussion about how dissatisfied you are with your purchase. The guys are very custer focused and can authorise no profit deals to retain your business. 2012 DISCOVERY 4 GS AUTO ORKNEY GREY
