Picked MY10 GS up from dealer today, the fuel pump wiring modification was done under LR extended warranty. No problems when I drove it home and dealer said they will replace fuel senders if it reappears. Will have to wait and see.
Car had been cleaned and polished, inside and out and tyres blackened so well pleased with that. Very Happy

Will keep all fingers crossed that the new fix works. If it does it sounds as if it will save future sufferers a packet of money. Do keep us updated won't you?

Hi folks, just got back from holiday and so far no problems after about 300 miles.
I was wondering if James (Jhoulston) has managed to get the same modification done ?
Cheers

Hi Mike,

Yes, I have had the fix done and all seems good at the moment. Done about 1000 miles since fix and no problems with the reading.

Fingers crossed it is sorted.

James

Now in my opinion, the issues with the sender units are caused by metallic debris from the fuel tank. Because these converters are not sealed, small particles from the fuel tank can easily enter inside and change the resistor value.

But the main question remains, what is the source of these metallic particles ? Is the gas station or the high pressure pump ?

When the fuel tank was removed I've seen many metallic particle of about 1-2 mm inside the tank, but none of this side inside the pump case, so I presume (hope) that the HP pump is fine ...

Please let me know if more pictures are needed.

Main and the return pipe of the pump, both ends inside the pump case. Only the main pipe has dirt deposits inside:

Hello atlas!

I had the same problem with my FREEL2 i6 in october 2012. The fuel gauge always wrong position. Sometimes I had more than 1/2 tank. Then I went to my mechanic and he put diagnostic. The result was a fault in sensor B (not the pump sender). Now, a month ago, the problem back again and more intense.

Your problem was similar as mine?

It's possible the fuel sender replace 10 months ago malfunction again?

Thank you, good luck with your FL!

Sorry to resurrect this old thread but I was wondering if anyone who has had the hard wire fuel pump solution had it done out with warranty and if so what was the approximate cost? Is it just a couple of hours labour or is it longer and are there any parts needed?

My wife's car has been suffering intermitanty from a zero reading at start up for a while but just today begun to read only half full when I just filled it up.

When I searched on here I was getting worried reading about the cost of replacing the senders so was very happy to reach the posts saying that there was a wiring fix. That sounds much cheaper but I'd like an idea of how much before I take it to the garage on Thursday.

Hi Skiddy,
Had mine done under warranty, don't know how big a job it is but suspect not as big as replacing the senders. I've had no problems since it was done.
Cheers,
Mike. 2010 GS TD4e manual Lago Grey

Thanks for the reply

Car is going into an independent garage tomorrow so I splashed out on a 1 hour TOPIx subscription to get a look at the related bulletins so I had an idea of what may be required.

If anyone else is interested the hard wire solution bulletin gives a labour time of around 2.5 hours (that's from memory, I did print it off and save a copy but I don't have it in front of me to double check.)
