It's an insane world when you are charged £200+ to get a dealer to plug into a computer which tells then exactly where the fault is so that they can have an opportunity to quote for work!

Sucks! Shocked

If you think the UK LR dealers are bad, take a holiday to the U.S. They are downright torturous. They believe everyone who drives an LR is a millionaire and can afford anything they throw at them. I've heard rumblings that JLR's international arm is worried about the US market as the brand expands (and potentially goes downmarket with the upcoming Defender) as the dealers are too snobby and rip-offish for mainstream tastes. CAR HISTORY

Update on my HDC fault:
Had the FL2 into an independant today and apparently it is a dead short on a soleniod/pump on the rear diff. This needs replacing at a cost of £230+VAT for soleniod, £10.00+VAT for a seal, £20.00+VAT for special oil plus all the labour.
So say good bye to £400 plus incl VAT.

At the moment I'm totally dissapointed with my FL2 had loads of other makes of vehicles in the last 25 years this is my first car that has cost me silly money to fix.
Driving my trusty old 1994 defender 90 300tdi at the moment which is just always there and works when I need it.
Sad

Eh, that's every modern car, though. Fact of life with all of the electronics on board these days. Not sure about the UK, but in the US market Audi has been running an ad campaign for their A4 advertising the fact that the car's computer "makes 2,000 decisions per second."

As my Dad, a lifelong VW/Audi guy said, "That's 2,000 things that can break every second."

Indeed. CAR HISTORY

thats why I bought a code reader costs about £20 and you can look up the codes on google to see what they mean

Someone said now you need to get a quote to see how much the quote will cost to do the job Rolling Eyes

Hi All
All fixed and back on the road, lets hope it does at least another 77k before it decides to play up again.
Many thanks to a little independant Land Rover specialist in Tavistock (Mark Kelly) and at a sensible price compared to the main stealers Very Happy

Programming haldex ecu

Haldex ecu

hi all, my freelander has started to display various error messages, special programs not available - transmission fault etc.

The fault codes are:
U0136-00
U0136-87

Both are related to communication with the dif control module.

I have checked the fuse that controls the haldex and that is ok, I have checked for power at the plug that plugs into the haldex again there is power present.

I am going to remove the haldex at the weekend and clean it out, then get the pump and the ecu checked.

If the haldex pump and ecu are us I may be able to get my ecu fixed but if it can't be fixed

Does anyone know, can only a main dealer reprogram a haldex ecu ( a new part) or can an independent do this job.

Check the wiring to the Haldex first. It has been known for the wiring to chafe against the rear subframe, and loose comms Thumbs Up

Check wiring as stated. Also pump failure can damage the ecu or cause it give spurious error messages. I can supply an ECU, or complete haldex for a fraction of the cost, give me a call if you want some advice. www.bellengineering.co.uk
