Can't remember about flip screen but you can deffo still access the power button on the rear. You have to remove the little rubber mat and stick your little finger through. A bit awkward but it can be done for the odd hard reset.

Incidentally mine continues to be fine after I updated the software / did a hard reset.

Wondering if I go with a newer model and find a way to improvise access to the start button or if I try and find the pre 2012 model...

Access to start button is only required very occasionally. You can set the unit to switch on and off with the ignition, so only need the start button if the internal battery dies. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Been great for months then this heat today got to the hot glue and it fell into the slot. Had to refit. Tried a little velcro to see if that just supports it..might need a revisit.

I ditched the hot glue after the first summer. Use Sikaflex or similar.

Decided on Garmin not tom tom, as it can also link to my fenix 5x watch



The visible screen on this 15cm x 9cm seems just about perfect for the hole.
£20 for the kit that is used for fitting cameras and it's the same USB connector so seems easier, and £2.58 for the metal bar that I might need to chop up to hold everything in place, and I'll use double sided tape to hold it all in place, and if it's all right then I might use expoxy glue or drill some holes and use nuts n bolts.

This was £272.53 all in. But seems reasonably cheap for a fully fitted top of the range sat nav.

Ok fitted.

It's fantastic fit's perfectly.
Had to cut two mm of two rear bits of plastic just the whole of the screen fitted.they weren't supporting anything just rear side bits completely non visible, and that was it.

I have been thinking of going down the Garmin route as well. Yours looks great, but I have a couple of Q's -
What is the sound like, is it loud enough to hear the instructions once it is installed?
If the unit is wired to receive power when the ignition is turned on, is there a way to turn off the sat nav when you go for a drive, but do not require navigation assistance?

Sound: if you have the stereo baring it's difficult to hear, but i find it fine to hear. Just can't have stereo ar deafening levels.

Power: you can I think turn it off, but I just let it sit there it sits on the menu saying where you want to go or show
Map. So I just am in the habit jump in the car, start the engine 10 seconds later when sat nav is up I just tap the screen so it shows the map of where I am. So I always have a map visible it works perfectly it's not distracting and it's sometimes nice seeing what's up ahead. 2010 Freelander2 TD4_e GS

Re the failed hot glue issue [per below], mine has fallen foul and collapsed into the void during the heat of last summer and also this summer.
So my solution was to fix strong cable ties diagonally behind the unit [securing it in nice n tight] ... and I then also used the hot glue gun to keep it exactly in place.
It's survived the hottest day of the summer so far, now hopefully all will be ok with mine.
