Here's a pic of our "new" 2009 2.2 HSE. Side guard has got to go. Not sure if the rails would be any use, either. Looks cleaner without, IMO.

When I bought my FL2 I wanted side guards. But my dealer told they are useless and makes the car ugly.

If you are side by side with standard cars their doors are below the side guards. If the car parked on you side is much bigger (US pickups, or range Rover their doors are above the side guards.

So if you park beside another SUV the size of the FL2 side guards make sense

Thanks - I just hope there's a painless way of removing them. Hey, and if you happen to park alongside another FL2, shouldn't be a problem right?

Also the black tubing under the doors seem to serve no purpose other than to reduce the ground clearance. The car is in having lower arms and some other small niggles fixed under warranty (possibly also a rocker cover gasket replaced) - but waiting for the arms from Singapore for a couple of days.

Can't wait to get off the tar!

We also have the side guards and not sure about the function but happy with the appearance

Hey there SGS01, nice to meet you! Actually what I was talking about are the black tubing under the door sills, and the roof rails. I've grown used to them now, although the roof makes alot of drag and noise above 110Kmh, worse with the sunroof open. Still, a shame to take them off. The tubes actually reduce ground clearance, and if I'm doing serious offroad, they would have to come off. But for light off-roading like I tried out today for the first time with this one (see pics below) no problem.

Its a fantastic car on the road, and the fact you can do his too just makes it a teriffic all-round vehicle. Have fun with yours

the tubes are sill protectors, stop you popping the door sills off, saved my car a few times and i now have 2 sets one for show, one set for mud that are scraped and dented

npinks thanks for the clarification. Yes i can see how they would protect the sills - the driver's side rear sill is already loose at the front of the door, will have to see about fixing that. Maybe I'll keep the sill protector tubes on,then.

Incidentally after getting the car washed today, the AC was blowing cold on drivers side and hot on passenger side. All AC lamps seemed to be in order, temperature both set to 2O F. Couldn't think of anything else to do but switch off the engine, wait a little, and restart. Presto! All is well again. Wondering if I should have this checked out?

each side does have independent temp controls, so i presume they have thermostats each side also,

Could be showing signs of failing, or could be that that side was cooler and below 20c so the car thought that side needed a little warming up

Keep an eye on it and see how it goes
