temp gauge showing overheating

Hi everyone, 2 questions in 1 here

1 during the floods 2 weeks ago it took me 2 hours of stop starting to get home and at one stage my temperature gauge started to climb and was literally bouncing between 3/4 and red it normally runs bang centre i pulled over for 5 minutes and afterwards it was fine is it normal to overheat driving like that or was it the gauge.

2 when stationary during heavy rain i get steam coming from the from of the car is this normal or linked to question 1

overheating - check this urgently..........

DO NOT remove radiator cap if engine is hot.

If you wadded, then it can be mud/dirt accumulated in the front radiator or between the the two radiators.
Or the fan's controller doesn't work as it supposed to. Check to see if, when A/C is ON, the fans are working.

I had a over heating problem on my first FL2, due to clogged up radiator with mud

I would check your levels, check the fans working and then check the rad for clogged mud etc

Yes, it is.
As soon as the pressure rise in the AC system, which is pretty quick after AC start-up, the fans should start spinning at a lower speed.

If you manage to partially block the radiator with mud it is worth taking the front of the car off to do a proper cleaning job. There are several radiators, Coolant, air con, intercooler, oil, if one is restricted then they all will have suffered to some degree.
The intercooler is Very deep, and will not be cleaned by poking a jet wash at the parts you can see. Take the time to take it off, and flush repeatedly with a hose pipe.

OK it might take you half a day, beats going shopping, and you will feel better for having earned that beer in the afternoon when you have finished. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Water is fine.

Muddy water is the problem, a large plastic bag duct taped to the front, not pretty but functional.
Easier if you have the black plastic bumper overrider fitted - your not sticking to shiney paintwork.

Not specific to FL2, seen many a Defender and Disco broken down on the M62 on the way from Driffield after playing on the off road course. Stopped to ask a few if they needed assistance, generally overheated from blocked radiators. Supprising really how many would rather wait for assistance rather than be towed to safety by a Freelander. Mr. Green Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
