This is all real good info, Guys. I'm just about to run some 12V to my Ham rig and was scratching my head about where to breach the bulkhead.

Guys, my Ham install has gone well up to the point of running cable through the bulkhead.

The route proposed by IRSnuff and pictured by johnny_22_83 does not exist on my car. When you remove the plastic cover on the L/H/side of the engine bay (looking from the front), the power brake reservoir takes up most of the hole and there is no cable entry/gtommet anywhere in sight. Maybe this is only relevant to L/H D vehicles?

Mudslinger's idea about removing the glove box sounded OK too, but having removed the GB, I can't see any way to get cable through. Could you be more specific about where to look for a grommet behind the GB?

Any and all suggestions welcome at this point as I've reached a dead end.

Problem Solved! Thanks to a post about three years old, I followed the bonnet release cable through the bulkhead and with coat hanger wire, pushed through into the engine bay. Only problem is, you have to remove the battery and battery tray to retrieve the cable and 80AH batteries are heavy as! Will post some pics shortly and thanks again to all those who came forward with advice.

I have almost finished the installation. Pictures are being uploaded to gallery.

For power, I have ordered OEM connector of trailer power. Once I get it, I will be finishing the wiring.

Radio is an FT8900, Ant is a 1/4 wave whip. ( I cant put any longer antennas due to restriction of parking space height).
Front panel is mounted with the help of YSKxx00 kit with a lido mount onto passenger sear bolt. Speaker wire is run to the front, but I feel after taking off the fiber cubby hole cover at the boot, the audio level is usable in most conditions. If its inadequate, I can plug the cable into a X-mini speaker kept in the front cup holder

Hope this helps someone planning an installation. Any suggestions, better mounting options are welcome.

This install looks really neat, Manoj. I've just about finished mine, just a bit of tidying up to do. I bolted my radio to the underside of the spare wheel cover, rather than drill holes through the floor, but your way does look a lot more secure. My ant is a dual band 2/70 mounted exactlyu as yours, but I have to remove the ant to put the car in the garage. My remote front panel is fitted into the cubby along with a GPA and battery monitor. I'll post some pics very shortly and we can compare notes.

Thanks. We shall wait for the pictures. Please note I have not drilled any holes on the floor. I have just used two bolts that are already there ( probably to mount the wiring harness and canbus controller for trailer). All i had to do was, fabricate an "L" clamp from a furniture accessory so that my mounting bracket could be securely attached to these two bolts.
A better way is to have a 6" * 6" plate, bend it at 2", use two bolts on surface and then third one which is used for securing the fibre cover. The mobile mounting bracket can be made to attach to this plate with rivets. Will take that up as my next weekend project

I have used this setup for past few days extensively and so far no hiccups, although I am not happy with the dc chord dangling from the aux power socket.

Photos of FT857 Amateur Transceiver now in my gallery, albeit out of order. I will rearrange them as soon as I find out how and provide some notes on the install which may be of help to anyone else brave/crazy enough to try to do it this way!!

In my case,

VHF was part1. Part2 - HF installation follows... . Don't have an hf antenna. Will do that as soon as I get one. For the present radio 8900, antenna which covers 10m/6m/2m/70cm is available. But not very productive as 10 & 6 m are sporadic. Also its too much of inconvenience to remove/ tilt antenna before parking. I am moving to a new place where I have ample space and no restriction on antenna height. Also I will have to change my present radio to an IC706/FT857/IC7000 etc...looking at options.

As per Manoj, 2m/70cm stage one, HF to come later. Currently thinking of stringing up a quick counterpoise ant along the fence, dragging the coax into the garage, power up the rig from mains supply and sit in the car for some HF QSOs. I'm going to have to come up with some sort of ant tuner before I can do that though.
