Price of fuel .... ouch !!

As we are all too well aware fuel prices in the UK have increased in recent months, what with the additional duty on fuel and crude oil related increases.

Well, thanks to Tesco and their 5p litre of promotion I've not been exposed to the £1 per 1 litre until today. But I have to report that despite my best efforts today, for the first time, I've paid more then £1 per 1 litre ... ... ... ouch !!! Pump price 105.9 ppl, so even with 5ppl voucher discount, I've paid over the crucial figure ... I guess that now we've broken the £1 = 1 litre we should expect to see further increases ...

yep

Yep, I've also seen diesel at £1.1199 per ltr. Big Cry

I've got the feeling that since the petrol companies broached the £1.00 per litre barrier, the price is going steadily upwards almost daily ..... or am I just imagining that?! Rolling Eyes

Just to make matters worse my sister-in-law just told me she won't buy fuel when it's over CAN $1.00 a ltr Evil or Very Mad  Life is not a dress rehearsal!

Yes we are feeling the pinch in Australia too. Diesel is frequently over $1.50 per litre Evil or Very Mad now and with the distances we travel it justifies buying the FL2. Very Happy This Christmas I need to travel 4500km without any side trips. Yawn Regards Ub2

Nick, I agree - it seemed to hover under £1 a litre and has rocketed by up to 12ppl (i.e. 12%!) in the last 6 weeks.

Who is driving these massive above-inflation increases?

From what I have read the recent increases have a lot to do with commodity traders.
Oil producers have repeatedly said they are putting more than enough supply in the chain for prices not to rise.
Unfortunately oil is now a big investment vehicle. Oil is seen as a secure investment at the moment and viewed as a source of profit in an uncertain stock market. this results in big demand in the commodity market and increased prices.

I may have all this wrong but that was my understanding of it.

Of course the way we have high duty added and then tax applied as a percentage of the total only compounds matters when the prices are going up.

Time for some more fuel blockades Mad TD4 HSE Auto Caspian Blue

Nah ....

Nah ... fuel blockades are not the answer ..... they just seem to bring the worst out in ppl!

Perhaps we should join some Govt focus groups; we could tell the Gordon (the PM ... for non UK members) that Dave Cameron is planning to reduce fuel duty!! He needs a few bright ideas right now Razz

Or if that fails, maybe we should demand a General Election! Razz

I know it would be hard to do, but the answer is to STOP buying fuel,

Take a week of absolutely nobody buying fuel and the profits/share prices would tumble along with the prices

They would have no choice but to lower the cost Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Good ideas although the PM is unlikely to call an election when there down 11 points in the polls , does anyone know a dodgy builder who can channel funds to the Labour Government through third parties maybe we can buy them off Wink
