Bridge Camera Choice

We had a lengthy discussion on this a while back: http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic11004.html

Having done some extensive research into reviews from critics and also comments on forums, I am torn between these 3:

Sony DSC HX200V
Panasonic DMC-FZ150
Nikon P510

I understand these can't compete with proper Digital SLR's but from the earlier thread I discovered a bridge camera was ideal all things considered. Can any of you photo guys (Taz in particular) offer views on these 3 cameras please?

Hmm, must admit I don't know too much about bridge cameras, as for competing with SLR, they are all capable of that, unless you want large prints, all of these cameras are more than capable for digitally projected/viewed images.

Some pointers that may help:
RAW - unless you want to post process each image then forget this and use jpeg, which they all do.
Megapixels - unless you want huge prints then around 8meg is more than adequate, any more is good for marketing!
Too many pixels on a single chip has its own problems, each pixel is an individual transistor which creates heat, too many and heat degraded the image, all is not what it seems with this figure. The Sony gets negative comments re image quality and has a strange sensor backlight?
Size - sounds daft but have a good feel of each one, put it on the counter in the shop, then pick it up and take a picture, are they intuitive, does one fail this test, nothing worse than missing a shot through fumbling, it's why I never put the lens cap on when the camera is out of the bag, think of it as a "never ready cap"

Just a few thoughts, look at DPReview website, excellent unbiased reviews and tests.

My choice of those three, the Nikon followed by the Panasonic. Sony has too many bells an whistles.
Panasonic will offer a little more as it will shoot RAW, allowing fancy editing to be better performed.

A comparison here

The choice is personal, get what feels right Thumbs Up

I know this is pretty much just throwing a spanner in the works... but have you considered the canon g12? A compact camera that will let you explore the world of manual settings? : ) (you will love doing long exposures at night when nobody else can bother you)

As I am a Nikon man, however, with exception to the G12, I would have to say go for the Nikon : )

I know things can be quite liberal in Sweden but over here I would expect the chances of getting caught would be high and the penalties severe. Whistle

Canon g12 is ok but short on optical zoom and you can't use the digital zoom in manual mode. Great camera other than that and the fact the lens coating is coming off of my wife's g12 after only 5 months making it unusable. Just sent it off for a warranty repair waiting for the row to start about how the damage occurred
