Strange key fob

Something odd happened today. Opened and started the car as normal, drove for 25 mins, parked up and locked the car.
Came back 5 mins later and the car wouldn't unlock. Nothing. Bear in mind i rotate the key fobs regulary.

After a bit of head scratching, i depressed the tailgate unlock button which worked fine and hey presto, the fob unlocked the CDL as normal and it's been fine since.

Any ideas? I'm baffled Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Tony Thumbs Up ,
Odd thnig is that the fob opened the car this morning without probs and the fob hadn't been used for three days.
Think i'll start taking both fobs with me for the time being.

If it's only the battery, i don't mind a bit of soldering Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

I think Alex is correct.

If it happens again, try holding the fob close to bottom of the front windscreen, then press the unlock button.

This should then work (you are shortening the distance the radio signal has to travel, and so is stronger, and therefore less chance of interference)- I am assuming the receiver is inside under the centre of the dash, unless someone can corfirm another location.

Exactly right, there are certain places where i have trouble using my key fob every time i park there.
The FL2 isn't as bad as some cars i've owned.
I never once had trouble with BMW's but i had an impreza wrx that for insurance reasons had a thatcham cat 1 immob and alarm on top of the factory system along with a tracker etc, and that used to suffer really badly with interference, it was sometimes so bad i had to unlock the car manually and push it to a different area of the carpark before i could disarm the immobiliser! Big Cry
Very annoying! I have read somewhere that its possible to have your system re programmed which can reduce the problem, maybe they alter the frequency.

The receiver is located in a central position behind the head liner.
Somewhere above the rear seats, adjacent to the rear interior light.
And the same receiver is used for receiving signals from the tire pressure monitoring system.

Think it must have been EMC interference that caused the problem Alex Thumbs Up Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Receiver location - thanks Alex for the updated location.

I'll remember that if ever I have a problem.

Odd thing this interference. I worked at at garage which had on street parking outside and we often had people wandering in to the workshop asking if we could help as their car parked outside would not start. We got odd looks when we told them to push the car 20 yards down the road and it will be fine......but it always worked! There was a cinema next door to where the cars parked but I have no idea what strange frequencies a cinema would emit Shocked John

My wifi router has two frequencies and a "cafe style " setting, 2.5Ghz and 5Ghz, I presume the cafe style setting runs at 2.5Ghz.
The cafe setting directs anyone who finds it to a holding page where they can enter a password and have internet access, if I leave this setting on, the neighbours FFRR battery goes flat, great for if he Censored e$ me off Laughing

See this story too, a simple case of too many gadgets, not enough frequencies I guess

About ten years back we have a load of trouble with a GM Jimmy which was parked at Newcastle Airport, (The owner would return to his car with all the window down, car unlocked, soaking wet seats etc)
After 6 month the car was handed back to the dealer,
GM told us not to sell any import cars to anybody how works at any UK Airports,

The Jimmy's, & Cadillac's and where poor cars (sorry to say) The Corvets where fast in a straight line but not great on corners (Tram lined to much for my liking) Could be a reason why the GM imports didn't sell well. Rolling with laughter
