Tailgate switch about to be replaced, any hints

Just received new switch via E-bay ( good old Duckworths). Before I start to replace it are there any tips to prevent/delay having to go thru this procedure later. Will using Hermatite/ MS4/silicon adhesive on the rubber gasket do any good? I assume that LR hasn't a solution so it's up to you dear readers. Question 11 GS Bali Blue

Thanks MAFF for the reply. I have all the pics ready for the job and followed the corresponding replies. Most readers seem to use grease on the switch unit gasket so maybe I'll use MS4 or white grease, although a non-setting gasket compound will be better. Will post the results when I finish. Don't suppose LR have any idea on solving this problem or have modified the assembly to make it weatherproof. 11 GS Bali Blue

At last got around to replacing my tailgate boot switch, used Forum tutorial which made it a quick job ( thanks to the author of this info). Used MS4 to try and seal joints. Had a look inside the old switch but not very much corrosion, certainly not as much as I'd expected. 11 GS Bali Blue
