if the Garmin is fitted and hard wired how is the power button accessed?

how is the Nav turned on and off?

If you supply 12v via F5 in the passenger side fusebox the Garmin senses an external supply and ignores its own power switch, it then turns on and off automatically by your car ignition button.

If you don't wish to have the Garmin on all the time, then slap in an inline switch which can go in the glovebox

My car doesn't have a bluetooth compatibility, so the guy at the radio shop wired the switch from garmin to the unused phone switch on the radio panel. It works well, and ads a "factory built" touch to the whole system. I'm only affraid that the warranty for the radio is now void.

I have only had my FL2 since Friday and already this site has helped a ton - installing my Garmin Montana into the dash, removing the glove box without breaking the damper, and lot of time consuming, but very interesting reading.

My retro fitted garman sat nav has been installed by LR in such a way that not only can't you switch it off or take it out but you can't update when prompted. I have got used to it being on all the time but retro fitting is not the perfect answer.

I believe it is as I put a switch in to turn it off.
It's only a case of taking a few panels apart to reach the socket to install any updates.

I'm sure someone (sorry can't remember who ) fitted an extension mini usb cable from the garmin to behind the glovebox and then plugged in the power lead.

That wat when it needed an update it could be plugged into a usb cable to a laptop  2002 Honda VFR800

My Nuvi used to fit in the cubby and power lead ran down behind dash into power socket - did it myself and gained bluetooth and nav through speakers for very little effort
