Witter Towbar height and quality

Hi just planning ahead at the moment, still looking for the right Freelander 2.
Phoned my local towbar supplier, Towrite in Upminster, for a qoute on a towbar with flange for Maxxraxx compatability and AL-KO stabaliser head compatability.
They have suggested a Witter fixed height flange towbar. Has anyone got one? if so could you tell me the ball height from floor to center. Also what is the quality like? i have seen many other towbars go rusty very quickly.
Any other suggestions or combinations welcome. Apart from "dont tow".
Cheers.

I have a landrover detachable tow bar. Nice to be able to remove when not using. I also have the landrover electrics fitted. To be honest I'm not sure I could recommend anything other than the genuine towing electrics for a FR2.
they also tow very well, especially the auto.

I would agree with oldgeezer on this one. I also had the LR detachable towbar fitted when I got my HSE. I did try the local towbar fitters but their prices were not much less than LR and I would have had to take it to a dealer to have the electrics coded into the car (that is if you go the whole hog and have the dedicated electrics fitted). As for Witter quality, I have had several of these in the past with no problems found.

Hope you find your ideal Freelander 2 soon! Thumbs Up 2010 HSE TD4 auto, Biscay Blue, Almond Leather, facelift front and rear, detachable towbar, front & rear mudflaps, bib spoilers, clear high level brake light, smooth rear wiper, colour coded door handles.

Take a look at the Witter detachable flange towbar from PF Jones. Good quality and very easy to fit (no drilling), very solid and easy to attach and detach. No play as experienced by some genuine LR bars. Being able to detach means you have full ascent clearance at the rear without dragging the bar. Genuine LR electrics are expensive and you need to get the electrics configured by a LR dealer for about £50.

I have the 'Witter' detachable, dedicated loom, no cut to the bumper, long swan neck. Fitted by my local towbar firm and software coded by them, around £400. That cost can be around £300 if a dedicated loom is not used
Had it one year now, no play as yet as some have reported with 'Brink' and no rust showing.

445mm to centre of towball unladen from memory.

Mine has a PCL fixed flange tow bar, as fitted when I bought it s/h. Just upgraded the electrics from single 7-pin to 13-pin. It was already fitted with bypass relay wiring which works ok, so have not changed it. Ball height (ALKO) to centre = 465mm. Witter are very good. Maybe the best of UK style fixed flange.

I have the Witter fixed height flange type towbar with dedicated electrics and 13-pin socket.

Fitted in 2011 by CDF for £275 all included. They programmed the electrics and the only thing that isn't as it ought to be is that the sensors beep when reversing with a trailer, but this is no big deal. I also have a maxxraxx bracket fitted permanently.

Ground to mid-ball height is 42cm (some stuff in boot and full fuel tank).

The towbar contraption does not bother the reversing sensors. Use it to tow Ifor Williams double horse trailer or twin axle trailer.

Many thanks
The removeable flange type sounds even better. Any chance of the floor to center height of that one please. My HUH.. HMM... requires a height of 415mm+/- 35mm.
As i said i want to use a flange mountable MaxxRaxx type bike carrier while towing the HUH.. HUM... I know they do ones that clamp on the swan neck but they dont look as secure for my liking.
Just paid a deposit for a 5 year old freelander 2, so will need it one soon. Is the genuine Landrover towbar a cost effective option? I have been qouted £220+vat inc 13pin electrics for the Witter.

Cheers

Tow bar height is to a standard across all makes and models. All tow bars are built to type approvals so you will find little variation. The Witter is a perfectly good bar but you cannot specify the ball height. The only way is to fit drop plates etc, which is not recommended. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

The LR removable = 46.5cm ground to ball top.

A contender for the winner of the worst quality picture on the forum.... only possibly beaten by a picture of a Bl&ck RRS Laughing (Or a manual FL2 Laughing )

And agree with Dunkley, they are all about the same. C.K your CARAVAN will be fine even at this Thumbs Up
