A good innings

Please excuse the downbeat tone here but I just wanted to share this. My great Auntie Joyce sadly passed away this morning aged 90. It was rather sudden having seen her shopping the other day. She was rushed to hospital last night with a blood clot on the brain and is now at peace.

She was a grand old age and made of tough stuff having been a cotton mill worker during World War II and been evacuated to the bomb shelters many times. Active to the last she even went shopping and to the bank in the recent snow despite our pleas for her to stay in and she never needed a walking stick.

She celebrated her 90th in early January and we had a family meal which she enjoyed. She has had a superb innings and she will now be with her sister again (my Grandma).

RIP Auntie Joyce. God bless. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Always sad to hear and sorry to hear of your loss, but heartwarming to hear that she made the most of life until the very end!

My thoughts are with you and your family at this sad time. Regardless of age, the loss is still hard to come to terms with. I remember your kind words when I lost my Dad just before Christmas.

My mother died at the age of 96, still living independently and in full commend of her faculties. She died suddenly from a stroke.

Death is hard to take and it comes to us all at some point, but I think that most of us would if we had the chance would opt for the deal my mother and your Great Aunt had. John
