Please can anyone confirm the specs of the following two tyres fitted AS STANDARD ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ONLY to your FL2's with 17" wheels?


1. Michelin Latitude:

* Are they marked as "Tour HP's"?

* Are they marked with the "M+S" symbol?

* Are they specified at 104 or 108V?


2. Goodyear Wrangler:

* Are they marked as "HP All Weather"?

* Are they marked with the "M+S" symbol?

* Are they specified at 104 or 108V?


There is a really good reason for needing to confirm this, so thanks in advance people

As far as I can recall:

Goodyear Wrangler

All Weather
M+S
104V

Continental

4x4 Contact
M+S
108V

I have a Wrangler as a spare and it clearly says:

H P
All Weather
M + S
103V

Interesting, my spare on a steel wheel was definitely 104V. The Goodyear UK website shows they sell 235/65/17 in 104V and 108H but no mention of 103V. That said Dealer told me that the spare tyres on steel wheels are not linked to the tyres fitted to the vehicle. My first FL2 had Continental 4x4 Contacts and a Goodyear spare, my second had Continental 4x4 Contacts and a Continental 4x4 Contact spare on alloy wheel.

Now, who knows about the Michelins?

To be honest I've not seen Michelin Latitude fitted as OEM to 17 inch wheels usually seem to be Continental or Goodyear. May be wrong but......

I'm in dispute with a tyre dealer that's just fitted a set of fully road tyres to my Freelander after I absolutely insisted that they didn't!

I need to find out the specs of the OEM tyres and, "standard info" it may be, but it's surprisingly difficult to get the definite answer on by any other means.

Why has a tyre dealer fitted something other than what you wanted?

Every time I have tyres fitted I tell them what I want

What have they actually fitted and do they meet the load ratings on the drivers door pillar?

Mine has Wrangler 'All Weather' M+S.

Maybe its a lease/company car like mine?, they only want to fit the cheapest tyres that are available that will fit the rims and that are in stock and easily available, hence probably full road tyres, they wanted to do this on mine until I told them I had to drive into fields and go down cart tracks and if they put road tyres on and it got stuck they would be getting the bill for recovery, they then put the original spec tyres on

You know something, CG? The chrome arse piece might be pretty nasty, but at least it's not as bad as the 3 1/2p door handle that was there before

Who knows, they might even attempt to fix the same problem with the facelift of the Range Rover Sport. At least it'll be easier for most RRS drivers to wipe drugs residue off the nice smooth surface of the chrome arse piece before the next drugs squad bust!...

This is a contract hire car. I can only go to one national chain to get them fitted.

I knew that I would not be able to specify the brand, but I knew that I could insist on it being the right spec, ie 235/65 R17 108V (or, 104V, as it turns out) and M+S. This car MUST continue to work in the snow and in mud.

I stressed at every point that the tyres must be M+S and they insisted that they would be. When they arrived into stock, I checked again and they said they were; I insisted on seeing them and they didn't say M+S on them. When I challenged this, they told me that Pirelli don't put "M+S" on the sidewalls, but that they were their M+S tyre and that the Pirelli model designation "Verde" on the sidewall meant that they were M+S tyres.

On that basis (and as the lease company had already insisted on them wearing right to the legal limit) I had little choice but to get them fitted them and I drove away.

On checking on the Pirelli website that night, the Pirelli Scorpion Verde (to give it its full name) turns out to be a tyre that is rated by Pirelli themselves as "0/6 for sand and 0/6 for mud and grass".

I contacted the lease company in the morning and they contacted the tyre dealer who changed their story; they said that "they had informed me that they were road tyres and that I had agreed that that was acceptable".

Fortunately, I had had the foresight to write on the signed receipt that "these tyres have been sold as M+S equivalents"

Now the lease company are finally asking ME exactly what tyres that should be fitted and they should (I hope) insist that the fitters correct their mistake.

I will never touch this chain of tyre fitters ever again if I have the choice.
