screeching from rear wiper mechanism

I replaced the rear wiper blade after our fl2 started making a horrible squeaking / screeching noise when its active.

The noise is still there, and even there when I remove and lift the arm off the window when sweeping.. so I suspect its coming from in the sweeping mechanism.

Any idea if this might be a easy diy wd40 job?

The rear wiper motor has a design fault which allows water / washer fluid to travel down the shaft and into the gearbox, causing rust and eventual seizure. If you catch it in the early stages you can clean & regrease - a bit of a tricky job but a lot cheaper than a new wiper motor assembly at £140.

Thanks RazMan. That's exactly what it turned out to be.

Currently sitting on a comfy chair at the dealers with a nice hot chocolate, using their wifiw while they replace the wiper motor under warranty. Just had to refuse offer of cake.. I could think of worse ways to wait while cars being worked on.

I had a problem with a wiper a while back but I found a used spare for ~50£. Checked the interior before bolting it to my car and it looked good as new. Will have to keep in mind to check for water next year.

Mine was so corroded inside that it had short-circuited.
