2008 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Santorini Black
Tail gate wont open

Tail gate wont open

I have found that some times the tail gate will not open. Now i have had the switch replaced in the past, but this time its differant. On the dash, it says that the tail gate is open. Its not. If you try to open it it will not move and the key fob wont open the tail gate at all. But if you drive over a bumpy road and then try the tail gate, sometimes it opens. You can here the relay tring to work but when its jamed, its jamed.

Has anyone any help here?

When you try to open it with the Fob or the handle, does it make any noises to suggest that it is trying to open Question
Have you trapped something in the door, carpet, shopping Question
Could still be switch, when mine went I started getting the message "Tailgate Open" and it wasn't, but could still use the Fob, also the switch would stick and sounded like I had an AK47 in the back Question

Like you, i had the message "tail gate open" and nothing trapped. infact boot was empty one time.

And it does sond as if the relay is an AK 47.

But the key fob open does not work. The switch is only a year old, and the FL2 is kept in the garage so not the cold or water getting in. 08 FL2 SE TD4 manual,Santorini Black, Factory fitted Black Tinted Glass, Anti-Tesco Trolly Side Protection, bebe confort axiss carseats & Cargo barrier to stop twin's buggy & junk coming through. I would still go for the switch, it only needs a little bit of water and with the cold temperature, if it freezes this is when it will fail.

I think it only needs the rear washer fluid to run down onto the handle and I'm sure it will get in Confused 2002 Honda VFR800

The later switch seems to have some sealant between the rubber and the switch, when I did mine a couple of years ago, the replacement had no sealant, I have sinced picked one up off the bay for £3 and it has sealant on the join, hopefully I will never have to fit it though.

How did you find one for £3.00 - the cheapest I've found is around £18 Question 2002 Honda VFR800

Starting bid of 99p and I was the second bidder, result, the £3 included £1.50 postage Sad while I have it as a spare I probably won't need it, sort of insurance policy. Laughing

Thanks all

The rear wash could be the thing.
Well it goes in for its service soon, and i have the LR warranty, so heres hopping. If nothing else, i means the last time it failed was under a year ago, so the part would still be in warranty.
