This asteroid posed no risk and at 36ft wouldn't have caused Armageddon if it did hit but would I suspect cause some serious damage and thousands/millions of deaths if it landed on populated areas.

The point is, they didn't even see it coming until Wednesday . So had it been Earthbound, it would have been a bit late to do anything about it.

If there is anyone on here with some scientific knowledge, what tracking capabilities have NASA etc got? because this slipped through the net and I have heard nukes would be useless.

It was unusual that it was reported quite late, I believe they had seen it coming though.
The biggest issue is NASA wishing to put a nuke in space, ready for the one on target. Can you ever imagine the Chinese, Russians or anyone else for that matter allowing that?

It will happen....One day, personally I think the moon will take a big hit first and the chaos that will cause with changes of tide etc, will be a massive wake up call, after all, this one came between us and the moon and it caused little concern.

Who say they haven't already got nukes in space, all those milerty satalites up there, could have sneaked one up

I think the chances of a planet killer been successful is far higher than NASA etc sending up something that could knock it off it's trajectory, whethers that's a nuke, laser, team of miners lead by Bruce willies Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

No Rachel was out last night, came in steaming drunk, so I was up with the kids, first one at 4:30am then 6:30am for the other, tried to get a couple of hours sleep in between, but his six and thinks he owns the whole king sized bed in his room so I got kicked for 2 hours whilst he slept and tossed and turned

The one that blew up above Tunguska in June 30, 1908 was guesstimated to be 10's of meters across and blew with a yield of 5-30megatonnes of TNT and did very severe damage to the area
