My FL2 not well (brake problem)

Just in time for Christmas my first real problem in three years of ownership.
Car seemed a bit sluggish on the short trip to work the other day, when I got out a strong smell of burning asbestos, then looked a the rear wheel, that's a lot of smoke coming from the rear wheel arch!
Oops, that wheel is hot, checked the other side, nice and cool.
Ring the supplying dealer who told me to ring Landrover Assist first, they arrived within 40 mins, he took car for test drive.
Yes, something not right with that rear caliper, never had that before, take the car to the dealer this afternoon and we will arrange a courtesy car.
Dealer inspected the car in the workshop and confirmed a seized caliper and over heated disk, will need to replace caliper, disk and pads as well as the pads on the other side. We don't have all the parts in stock and won't be able to order until after Christmas Sad
Great, I have a lot of running around to do picking up and dropping off presents etc this holiday.
Sorry sir, here are the keys to an MY11 RRS Autobigraphy, will that be OK.
Whooppeeee Merry Christmas me, by the way, take your time with the FL2 repair.

I bet it was the hand brake, had coursed the problem (The shoe spreader are know to seize up, holding the hand brake shoe ON)
Glad your getting it sorted. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Dealer is Beadles of Sidcup, always had good service from them for the past nine years.
Today I did not realise how may unnecessary journeys I had to make and each one always seemed to involve the long way round!
Nice car but is it really worth twice that of the FL2?

woo hoo sounds like a fun Christmas for you!

If I recall LR had problems with batches of brake pads that were delaminating when wet causing the brakes to self activate!

Picked the car up on Thursday with new caliper, disk and new pads both sides, all done under warranty.
Handed back the RRS Sad
Interesting comparison jumping back in my car how good the ride is in the FL2.
Could not get on with the RRS rear view camera, much prefer the parking sensors and door mirrors.
Thought the rear tail gates were a bit hit and miss on closing, the upper tailgate especially tacky for a £65K car.
Wouldn't say no to one though Whistle 09 FL2 HSE auto Lago Grey

Had a similar issue and attending LR recovery technician said a lot of dealers don't adjust the handbrake correctly which can lead to the adjuster seizing. Watched him adjust the handbrake so will do it myself from now on (i'd already mentioned to dealer that hand break wasn't right but, came back in same state after service) .... The siezed ajjuster had totally destroyed on brake shoe and deep score in drum so also had new disks/shoes/pads urn warranty 2008 Freelander2 GS TD4
