Squeaky notchy gearstick

hi all, gearstick just started to feel a little notchy / more difficult to get into gear and somewhat squeaky when being moved through the gears - is this something to worry about?

thanks

open bonnet, find gear cables under airbox/battery. get someone to fiddle with gear stick as you grease the sliding cables. I used silicon grease. nobody fiddled with my stick I had to do it myself Sad

close bonnet, test drive, smile.

under the gaitor there are clear plastic tubes as 'bushes' on a spring type arrangement, these get worn away and frayed. they should be replaced.
to be honest I took them off mine and it worked fine afterwards.

As you will have noticed you cannot find the cable ends under the gaitor, I assume they are under the car somewhere, maybe these could be located and greased? At work

Gave every moving part under the gaitor another good greasing yesterday and bingo.
Nice smooth gearchange.
I warmed the grease first to get it thin. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.
