United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4_e GS Manual Zermatt Silver
Another One Bites the Dust

After roughly twelve years of ownership the Freelander has now gone.
Although I appear to have been plagued with problems, I have always enjoyed driving it.
There is absolutely nothing that JLR produce now that suits my needs, which are a lot less now.
So I have replaced it with a Dacia Duster 4x4 with the 1.5 DCI engine. This is an engine I am very familiar with as it's used in so many vehicles. We have had six Renault Clio's of various sorts in our family all with the DCI engine. We are now using a MK4 Clio for more local journeys.
For anyone doubting the ability of the Duster, go to YouTube and watch it compete against the new Defender. Obviously it doesn't win but it does everything it can do at a fraction of the price.
As a side note, I won't be leaving the forum, just loitering around.

Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.

A friend of mine brought a dacia duster when looking for a new car. Top of his list of requirements was something very reliable and something that would still be parked on the driveway when he got up in the morning.

I would agree.
The four wheel drive diesels are very hard to find though. I've been looking for months.
Two hour drive to find this one. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !

My best mate has just taken delivery of a new diesel 4x4 , and I’ve two more shooting mates who both have diesel 4x4s as the second cars in the family . I’ve seen these vehicles drive in conditions that would put a lot of Chelsea Tractors to shame . Unfortunately they only do a manual in the 4x4 now otherwise they’d be on the list to replace the Scooby ( 8 yrs 80k without any warranty work ! ) as 2nd car in the family . According to the service pack I have, there is a 4x4 auto as it makes some sort of reference to disabling the auto box before having it winched on to a recovery truck.
I could have read it wrong though 😕 Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !

Although I'm a "dyed in the wool" Land Rover owner, I've always been aware of the Dacia Duster from way back in the 1980's.
The current Paris/Dakar vehicles are fantastic looking.
I tried to persuade my elderly father to get a Duster around 10 years ago, but the automatic was out of his price range.

It's surprising how many are on our roads.
I wouldn't have bothered with an early one though, they seriously rust issues 😕 Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !

Yes, you can get an auto Duster. A late friend of mine had one. At one time I did look at the possibility of getting one. He was extremely pleased with the car. Jim A

It's always good to know other people's impressions of a vehicle. I have a friend who has had one of the earliest ones for over ten years. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
