New Winter Boots Fitted!

Just been to the tyre fitters today and had my brand new winter tyres put on.

They are Avon Ranger Ice and here are some pics including a close up of the patented 'snow groove' which is serrated:

As per my post in the general section, I couldn't afford to buy them myself and was content with the M+S Wranglers which got me through last winter no probs but since my parents kind offer came along and I purchased these, I am now looking forward to some severe snow to see how good they are.

Some heavy rain would be useful too. Thumbs Up

They were £576 for the 4 fully fitted and including VAT. The Vredesteins would have been cheaper at £480 but only 2 in the country according to every place and website I contacted and at least 4 weeks until more arrive and that's not a guarantee Shocked

Happy with these anyway http://www.avon-tyres.co.uk/4x4/ranger-ice LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Are you going to run them just for the winter, or keep them on all year round.

Keep them on until April and then put the Wranglers back on. Using these in winter will prolong the life of the wranglers and vice versa. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

I am going to head straight for some deserted country lanes with some steep slopes and give them a full test run when it snows Thumbs Up LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

No worries. Being as I haven't had to shell out my own cash for these as per my post in the general section, I am well chuffed with these Avons. The tread pattern means business and has the snow groove too.

I will hunt down some serious slopes covered with snow and put them through their paces when the white stuff falls. I will then report back my findings Thumbs Up LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

My generals have a self clear pattern. Also a deeper tread, which I think will be fab in the snow and muddy fields

The problem with the snow give is that it will just clog and not clear

I've just ordered four of these, get very good ratings and seem to be only winter 4x4 tyre anyone can get hold of!
Thanks for the heads up Smile

I shall find out if and when they turn up tomorrow - I've got about five places 'trying' to get tyres so I was more than happy to find somewhere that could get them!
I would imagine around the £600 mark with alignment.

Fair enough Thumbs Up

Until the snow arrives, I will be happy to see some heavy rain to try them out as they apparently give better grip in the rain LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Excellent, driving back on the M4 last night it hit 2 degrees so I wouldn't be surprised if we say that snow sooner rather than later!
