Full size Spare wheel in the boot?

Hi guys,

A quick one, do you know if it is possible to put a full size spare wheel I the boot of a FL2?

Anyone know where to get a cheap rim from?

Thanks

Thanks. Its for my folks. No chance of them changing the wheel so te RAC can sort that out, or they'll call me and I'll use the airjack or trolly jack. They have a space saver so I suspect they have a jack anyway. If it's as good as the one in a D3 I'll throw it I the bin before it kills someone.

space saver are full sized, but metal, and limited down to 50mph due to the type of wheel bolt.

the spare will probably be 17" 235, but they have the same rolling circumference as the 18' & 19s so unless they need to wizz around at top speed then there is not much point in changing Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Saves a bit of space in the boot, called the spare wheel well.

I had a 'spacesaver' spare on my 1st Freelander 2. It was a 235/65/17 Goodyear Wrangler on a steel wheel while the four on road tyres were Continental 235/65/17. As previously stated the spare was limited to 50mph as the wheel hubs, nuts and bolts are designed for alloy wheels not steel wheels.

Current Freelander I ordered a full sized spare which is the same tyre and alloy wheel as the four on road tyres (Continental 4x4 contact 235/65/17.

Gawd Exclamation
Spacesaver is the wrong term, they are skinny wheel/tyres, ours are called 'Temporary Use Spare Wheel'
The tyre itself can be 225/65R17 or 235/65/R17 on a steel wheel, now this is the interesting part Smile Your standard 17" wheel is a 7.5J (which is 7 1/2" wide) but the spare wheel is 7J (7" wide), hence the main reason for the speed limit. Thumbs Up

E Yorkshire has it right. the black steel wheel supplied (if yopu're lucky) may have the same size tyre as the other wheels, or may be different, There was a thread on here some time ago in which we researched this and found (and I still find it hard to believe) that the SIZE of wheel and tyre fitted is not important as far as the law is concerned. Only thetype (crossply vs radial). If you have a black spare wheel then it's legal, will come supplied with a jack, but must not exceed 50mph.
The tyre on mine was standard size, so I bought an alloy off e-bay and fitted the tyre to it.
One thing to watch - tyres have a specific life (offhand I think it's 5 years), so if your spare is the right size, use it now before it's too old.
