Scotland 2012 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Fuji White
Potential Freelander Buy

Guys,
I am looking at 2 F2s. Both have 63-65k on them and are similar (GS). One has leather and heated seats.
Have not seen them in flesh yet. one is 2012 other is 2013.
Only thing nagging at me is potential rear diff/haldex faults.
I live a LONG way from Austin at Bell Engineering.
Both have main dealer history so likely haldex not ever looked at.
Am i worrying too much and are there any other big bills i may be hit with down the line?
Thanks Thumbs Up
Iain

You say both FL2 have a main dealer history so that's good news.

If possible buy from a reliable source and ideally have some kind of warranty.

From what I read haldex issues are not any more common on the FL2 than in other makes that use this FWD transmission.

Not sure about your exact Model Year, but both these should have the latest Gen 4 Haldex, and if the later one has an anologue clock in the centre consul, then it should have improvements similar to the Evoque's running gear.

I am not sure, but if you have a continuous main dealer history, you may be able to get an extended warranty to stop you worrying.

Tip -- The FL2 is a complicated car so try ALL the switches and check for warning lights on an extended trial drive. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 76k+ miles) (MY2015)

Hi,
also a new member and from what I have found, as just been looking and now bought one, have a go with the search button and plenty of topics to have a read of Laughing

2012 still has manual handbrake, 2013 moved on to epb which even with manual box will auto on when ignition turned off and auto release when you set off both operations should be quiet with just the whir of the motor

check all doors lock and unlock with the remote Rolling Eyes and has 2 keys that both work

if manual box pay attention to the clutch and release bearing £1000 fix

TD4 timing belt was 10 years or 150k but by 2012/3 L/R say 7 years or 116k (SD4 def that time) so a 2012 Question £300 indp

Heated Front screen would be nice (middle button of 3 screens, Prog, front, rear)

2012 leather seats may be electric adjustment but 2013 is back to manual adjustment

check underneath for damage 1 I looked at has sods of earth in many places and damaged exhaust and undershields, they can offroad well but a bit of care is good Laughing
Also 2 or 3 were missing the heat shield above the rear silencer box, not sure if they fall off or rattle and get taken off.
1 was missing the sump guard and engine top cover!

Check the spare wheel, full size, space saver, tin of gloop or nowt at all, you may need it sooner than you think, like within 12 hours Big Cry

And oddly check the rear brake discs/pads wear quicker than the fronts Confused

But enjoy the search Thumbs Up

United Kingdom 2012 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Firenze Red

I bought my 2012 Manual HSE 2 years ago on 131,000mls with full Landrover history up to that point. Mileage went up to 154,000mls trouble free in 18 months. No issues with anything on the car when I sold it and service history showed it was trouble free before I owned it. I did the belt myself when I first got it and spent about 3120 on quality parts to do the work. The old belt still looked like new when it was replaced. I bought the filter and oil to service the haldex but never got round to actually doing it before I sold it. Now have a DS which also has been trouble free in the 6 months I`ve had it. As with most forums things that do go wrong are always headline news when in reality most cars just do what they should reliably and without a fanfare!. Good luck in your search! Thumbs Up

Thanks for the input guys
Going to see them both tomorrow.
One is in a LR dealer, the other an indie used car dealer.
Keeping an open mind till I see them.
Cheers

I would definitely look into getting a warranty with the purchase. We got our LR2 from Fords of Winsford with only 19k on the clock, and fortunately we took out a 3 year cover as after 18 months the haldex packed in. We managed to get it fixed at Hunters in Chester for a grand total of £686 but claimed it back through the warranty.

Bought a 2012 FL2 GS in Arctic White from the main dealer.
Price was very good + decent trade in.

I thought the Land Rover used warranty was 2 years?

Does it vary model by model? Regards

Must be in the small print then as on the approved Land Rover site it says every approved Land Rover includes a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty? Regards

David

Approved Land Rover scheme only runs up to 6 years old cars with less than 100k on the clock at purchase. They come with 2 year warranty, LR assist, 165 point check etc etc

for cars older than 6 years that they deem good enough to put on their forecourt they offer them with only a 1 year warranty but no LR Assist and I think less checks.

I suppose you could call them LR partially approved Whistle
