Had a strange thing happen twice this week. I have a drive with a gentle upward slope about 50 yds long and with a steep bit right at the end. There is a public footpath at the top of drive so I con't race up. So starting from cold I cruised up as normal and on reaching the steep bit the car runs out of steam almost as if it's in the wrong gear. Doesn't stall. I stop and move off again everything is fine and it crawls up the final 10 yds as normal. Thereafter no problems. No messages up. Any suggestions?

Have you much fuel in the tank?
Wondering if the incline is moving the fuel in the tank and causing temporary fuel shortage?? Current: FL2 TD4 2008 HSE

Start with the easy stuff first...check air filter, fuel filter, try running some EGR Cleaner through.....

The only other permutation that I can chuck into thee mix is that when cold, the engine over-revs when you are accelerating hard. For example, if I turn out of my private lane, I am immediately onto a NSL road. When engine is cold, I struggle to get to 50 mph, and when I do get there, the engine RPM is almost 2000....it all calms down within half a mile or so once the temperature gauge has moved vertically up a couple of bars, but from cold, it seems to struggle to pick up. Similarly, if trying to change gear manually in CommandShift mode, the gearbox will not get out of 4th until is starts to warm up....I'm wondering if it's a safety feature inbuilt to stop you ragging it from cold? MY13 HSE Lux.......faultless since new.

I think that the battery management system keeps the revs up (on the automatics) after starting to recharge the battery asap.
On my SD4 Auto it is quite noticeable on short journeys in winter from a cold start. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

I am sure that the FL2 senses gradient, even in 'commandshift'.

I have experienced it not obeying change up/change down commands, after using manual engine braking, until I have reached the level ground.

When I had my FL2 I tried (in vain) to out-guess the autobox and influence it's behaviour like you could in the 'good old days'.
I had to admit defeat as it was far cleverer than me and its many programs easily outwitted me.


I still feel the Autobox makes some strange decisions at times. example every now and again it demonstrates how much torque can be available by going up a local hill in town at just over 1200 rpm. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Have had mine for just over 14 months now and 20k miles added. A lot of this has been in the Yorkshire Dales and Scotland and a couple of dozen or so times down Garrowby Hill has convinced me that in normal driving mode my MY15 Metro senses the gradient and controls the engine torque accordingly.
