Loss of power around 18-2000 revs and sucking noise?

Hello everyone.

My apologies if this has already been asked but I’ve tried looking around the forum and I’m going round in circles and not finding my symptoms.

I’m finding that as I accelerate, when I get to around 1800-2000 rpm I have a loss of power and the car sounds like she’s sucking extra air. From this forum I thought it was the fuel filter, the sucking compensating for the fuel starvation, so I’ve changed that, and other than some air in the system that eventually cleared she’s still displaying the same symptoms. She’s fine at idle and I can’t see any obvious signs of torn or split hoses anywhere.

The Haynes manual suggests a new air filter. Is there anything else it could be? I’m starting to panic as the garages aren’t open until tomorrow and I’ve got to figure out how I’m getting to work if I can’t fix her.

Thank you!

Dan

Sucking or whooshing noises are probably a split intercooler hose - plenty of posts on here Thumbs Up No Longer the owner of a 2013MY Fuji White GS

As Westville suggest sounds very much like a split turbo hose. The short intercooler hose at the front of the engine is the most common one to split and gives the symptoms you mention. It is hard to see as it is low down in the centre of the engine if you were looking standing at the front with the bonnet up. Unfortunately its not available on its own but comes as part of the complete intercooler pipe.(unless you were able to get a silicone one).Good luck!
