Freelander Accessories

hi all,

I'd like to off road my Freelander but with the fuel tank so close to the ground where is the best place to buy some accessories from.

ive seen a lift kit on https://www.muddymods.com/collections/free...m-lift-kit

been told these might pull the drive shafts out and put extra on the gearbox and back axle, has anyone fitted them?

and fuel tank guard on https://www.johncraddockltd.co.uk/land-rov...rd-07.html

has anyone fitted a snorkel or spot lights to there car

Thanks Wayne

2008 Freelander 2 SD4
July 22, 2015 Calum Brown

Before I purchased my Freelander 2 I looked at and test drove lots of 4x4s. I decided on a Freelander 2 due to economy, reliability, its performance on and off-road... and my wife saying yes! I was also impressed that the SD4’s 0-60mph time was 10.5 seconds, so not too bad for a 4x4.

I use the Freelander for my everyday transport, pay-and-play, and greenlaning. It’s a great off-road vehicle and never runs out of grunt. The traction control is excellent and certainly helps when in the mud.

Like any 4x4 that is pushed hard, it will get stuck, as I’ve found out for myself… but in my experience the Freelander is truly a wolf in sheep’s clothing! It’s a great feeling when other 4x4 owners are expecting me to get thoroughly stuck and the car rises to the challenge.

My modifications so far include a tank guard, CB radio, General Grabber AT tyres, and I’ve had the EGR blanked.

After coming close to writing the engine off while wading I looked for a snorkel and breather kit but I couldn’t find any on the market. So with a bit of welding, I made my own snorkel using 76mm steel tube and two-ply silicone pipe.

For the breathers I used 11 metres of 6mm flexible hose, plus one metre of 8mm, and some union joints. Now my hippo can wallow in mud and water all it wants!

Next on my to do list is to make a front winch mount and rock sliders.

[quote="WelshWayne21"]hi all,

I've had a 40/50 mm lift fitted from Warren at Muddy Mods. No problems what-so-ever. Feels and handles exactly the same, so I got used to the extra height almost immediately .

Love the scare stories - there were lots around when I decided to lift my Freelander 1 back in 2006 - all (well most anyway) proved to be a load of Censored written by people with absolutely no experience of doing any of the mods, so they had no first hand knowledge and relied on here-say. You know, "a friend of mine reckons.......", and "I heard that if you do XYZ then the doors will fall off !".

Warren extensively tested his lift kits. When he wasn't 100% happy with the first ones, he went back to the drawing board and started again. No half measures.
If you're still unsure, then fit one of his smaller lifts like the 30/30. But FIT ONE !!

Just watch your payload, you only have 500kg & it vanishes very quickly. I'm at my limit without all these accessories. Last trip I saw two Toyota Landcruisers stuck because they simply didn't let their tyres down & initially they were looking at my car wondering how I got where I did. Basic stuff! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
