Key fob rejected but locks / unlocks ok

Hello, When i purchased my 2007 lr2 (8 months ago) it came with 2 keys, i have been using one key no problem at all, but i tried the spare key the other day and it just keeps being rejected when i insert it, It will lock and unlock the doors fine but wont go into the ignition. Any suggestions as to why this is? I assume its programmed correctly and the battery is ok as the doors unlock? Many thanks

The immobiliser is separate from the remote control circuitry and is inductively powered so it will work even if the fob battery is flat.

Does the key case look as though it has been replaced? It's not unknown for people to fit a new case not realising that the immobiliser chip needs to be swapped over as well as the remote circuitry! Alternatively your immobiliser chip may be faulty.

Hi Pab, Thanks for the reply.
When i got the car, the seller did have issues with the second key (same problem) but he got someone to do something to it and it worked, i picked the car up later that evening and drove the car home using the spare key. The case does look newer but i'm not sure if that's just because it hasn't been used?

Does anyone know what can be causing this? can someone please tell me where the immobiliser / transponder chip is located? is it on the PCB or inside the casing separate to pcb? Thanks
