Bath Clean Air Zone allows cars in free - U Turn

The city of Bath has just changed it's mind regarding its Clean Air (Tax) Zone.

Cars will not now be charged to travel into Bath. This does not solve any problems.

http://www.globalcoldchainnews.com/bath-cl...-business/

I think Bath (and many other towns and cities around here) missed their chance to avoid cars driving through when they cancelled and/or discontinued planned by-passes.

Many years ago, Bath had planned a road that was to go from M4 Jn 18, south (A46) to the east side of Bath, were it would join up with the A4 west, and the A36 south. The project was abandoned, leaving a short stretch of (50 mph?) dual carriageway isolated from the A36 by the river. So the A4 and the A36 leave you with no alternative than driving through Bath.

If we are serious about cutting street pollution, we should be building By-passes with Park & Ride schemes into the local towns. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Bath has a very good Park and Ride system in place already......I found it almost as efficient as Oxfords, and that's saying something!

The point that I was trying to make was that Bath along with most other of the Cities, Towns, and Villages around where I live, are complaining about the traffic and pollution, but have turned down or abandoned any By-Passes.

i.e. They are complaining after stopping the perfectly good solution that had been started years ago but never finished. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

With the legislation as it currently stands local authorities can't put an extra tax on an ordinary bypass without legislation to make it a toll road, but they can introduce a Clean Air (tax) Zone. This adds a bit to the old addage "if you can't tax it, ban it", so if you can't do that then invent a new tax (preferebly on the cash cow motorist.

As a country dweller, a recent trip to London reminded me what euro 6 and the zones are all about, the air is thick down there.
Leeds is bad enough but London demonstrates why things need cleaning up.

The trouble with modern fuel/ emissions control is now exhaust fumes have a heavy formalin scent, not sure if its real formalin or just a smell alike but its not good.

Punishing cars is not even handed there are many other emissions sources that should be contributing to the money pot At work

Possibly Urea CG , the Adblue systems are Intoducing a 31% solution into the diesel SCR systems , lots of bus and trucks around Leeds city centre are in for a shock next year anything not meeting Euro 6 is £100 a day . They have not applied it to private vehicles .... Yet . The catchment area is huge , it’s anything inside the ring road . You are right , something does need to be done , and the government should have the Censored to put drop dead dates for running euro 4 , 5 , 6 etc in place. They should also truely incentivise scrapping cars at a certain point in their life . If you ever wonder where every 15 year old smoker diesel goes .... it’s Keighley, Rolling with laughter I’ve just driven through it up to Skipton you could cut the air with a saw. 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Does it smell like chicken then? I know formalin smells foul but I don't think it smells like chicken. Perhaps the pollution has affected your sense of smell.

See we went to Oxford a few years ago, tried to use the park and ride, but was told we couldn't take our 2kg Yorkshire Terrier with us unless it was an assistance dog. Got back in the car and paid >£30 for half a days parking.

Do they allow non assistance dogs on buses or trains these days? When I was at school in the 60's I used to take the dog to town shopping on the bus, we had to go upstairs and she had her own ticket. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
