Scotland 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto Firenze Red

I had the same dilema. I ended up buy a MY13 Lux. The Feelander 2 is the only car I’ve ever owned which I’ve bought a second one. The only reason I got rid of the first was the manual box, my commute to work was a lot of stop start and I just spent my life dipping the clutch going up and down gears. The lux has ticked all the boxes for me, all the bells and whistles and SD4 auto Smile

My stop /start commutes to work has also given me a lot of clutch grief , which I have posted about quite a lot. It has put me off the car, and I am thinking of going Kia next... 7 year warranty!

Its rare a clutch claim will be accepted by any vehicle manufacturer. Some owners will ride the clutch at any point on a journey and some knock a gearbox out of gear and wait for traffic lights to change with the handbrake on. Guess what we are all treated as we are a bunch of clutch riding numpties and the clutch warranty claim fails 7 year warranty or not. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

I would strongly urge you to read the terms and conditions of the Kia warranty thoroughly....whilst on paper it looks rock-solid, there are several clauses and caveats that once you drill down into, you realise that actually it's not quite as cracked up as it initially looks.

Most notably, the "wear and tear", not to mention "known manufacturing faults" and "known defects" cop-out.

For instance, I’ve just picked my L405 up having gone in to do a 4 wheel alignment check and adjustment. After 15 months and 41,000 mile there was no charge. It’s chargeable on a Kia after just 1,000 miles or 1 month. The wear and tear clauses will be the killer though...

I had Hyundai Tucson before Fl2 and there were no arguments at all about any claims, including a new clutch at 45000 miles... and no. ..I don’t ride the clutch . I seem to be unlucky with clutches. My previous 4 cars were fine ,. I generally keep cars for 6 to 7 years... I am thinking of auto or dct next though. I’ll have to work on a relationshiip with the Kia dealer who is 5 minutes walk from my house !

I’ve never understood when people say it’s a heavy car and a manual is no good. It’s not like you physical have to push the car to its nite Laughing I like a manual I’d never touch an auto we’ve got a few in the immediate family RRC, RRS, 90, L405, D4, D5 it’s just not my cup of tea.

I always knock the car out of gear at the traffic lights and at a roundabout I never have it in gear waiting for a save gap etc. Commuting to work in traffic daily when I’m not helping out on the farm. Never had any problems with my clutch or never wished I specced an auto.

Maybe I’m a dying breed but the man reason I went for a new FL2 was that it was available in a manual. I would have liked a D4 manual but they stopped them a while back Rolling Eyes MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

My comments on a similar post on what to buy,
The FL2 is as reliable as most other cars. The problem is, as with all Land Rovers, that they are very complicated with lots of bits to go wrong as they age, although I have been running a FL2 for over 6 years and have not had any serious problems.

The SD4 auto is the best and proper luxury LR experience, and as above the post 2013 models have updated systems.

Just make sure that you go for the latest model you can afford, with a good service history, from a reliable dealer, and most importantly a good warranty. Don't be affraid to search countrywide as most proper dealers will deliver.
Having said this, you may want a Land Rover warranty which can be honoured any where.

Depends when you had your Tucson, warranty conditions changed in 2008 and are the same as Kia albeit 2years shorter my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

I swapped my Tucson for FL2 in 2013, so I had a replacement clutch in about 2011.

Yes, Hyundai and Kia are virtually the same company. I don't know anyone with a KIA yet though so don't know about warranty problems
We'll see.

I can see that clutch could be 'wear and tear' I wonder if an auto box failure could be wear and tear Very Happy

But surely it must have already selected a drive such that I can move that initial 10 feet; why the hesitation? (2) I don't have EHB, just a manual handbrake lever. (3) Why does sport mode eradicate this problem?
