They only deal in film equipment and I've found from first hand experience that they give honest valuations and a very good service. I've sold 3 film cameras to them and they actually upped the initial "distance" Β£offer without prompting once they received the cameras.

Highly recommended, and they even got a nice write up in the Telegraph recently.

Good luck.

Just to update this, Howard phoned me just now regarding the camera and accessories that we posted just before Christmas. Β£80 has just been transferred over to me and I am more than happy with that Thumbs Up LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Good result Doc. Hope they find an enthusiast who can put the kit to effect.
As regards something with which to photographically arm a holiday snapper, it is often said that the best camera is the one which one has in one's possession at the appropriate moment. Nowadays that probably means the camera on one's mobile phone. What has changed in the last half decade is the quality of the images available from smart phones. Apple, Samsung and the like are huge companies and have far more money to invest in digital imagery than the likes of Nikon or Canon who are minnows in comparison. The cameras in most new smart phones are so exceptionally good that there is not much point in buying a separate compact camera. A DSLR or a mirror-less will still be better for specific purposes but for most point and shoot type scenes a camera phone is more than adequate and will often out perform a cheap compact for image quality.

I agree that for most purposes a mobile phone is almost as good as a small compact these days but in some circumstances there is no substitute for a decent DSLR with a long lens. I took this in Kenya this year not far from my son's house. This big bull was looking unhappy and started walking towards the car so we beat a quick retreat.

Yeh, doesn't sticking those big flappy things out mean they are warning you off ? you really don't want to mess with one a Bull Hefflump, just a shame he couldn't take out a few poachers and their chain of a-holes.

The problem with photographic equipment is that it depreciates faster than JLR cars. Even electronic DSLR cameras have little second hand value after a four or five years in my experience. As for film cameras just look on eBay at cameras like the Canon T90, which was one of Canon's most sophisticated film cameras, now at give away prices and there are loads available with no bids. Best to keep them and eventually they will become collectors items but not for a long time yet.

The exception could be the canon professional lenses

Taken on an old (about 2006) Pentax iSt (6mp) DSLR with a Tamron 18-200 lens. I have since upgraded to a Canon 1300D (18mp) with a Tamron 18 270 lens.
Taken from a Toyota Hilux pickup and didn't hang around for long as the elephant was starting to get a bit unhappy with our presence. This was no time to be in an FL2 with the hesitation problem !! 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I'm no expert, but decided to return to photography earlier this year, and bought myself the Nikon D3500 with the 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6G VR Lens.

I've been extremely pleased with it and its performance. I had lost track of how much cameras had moved on over the last 10 years. Updated- Waiting for a Scotland v England 6 Nations home win. 24th Feb 2018

I went with Nikon as my last camera was a Nikon. I think the cameras are not compatible with other lenses, but that's not a problem for me.

I have really enjoyed the Nikon, and it has got me back into the swing of photography, I just need to wean myself off the 'Auto' setting.... Rolling with laughter Updated- Waiting for a Scotland v England 6 Nations home win. 24th Feb 2018

In the early eighties I got a bit into photography and treated myself to a Pentax ME Super 35mm camera. Bought all the bits too - dedicated flash, motor drive, tripod, gadget bag, wide angle and telephoto lens, filters etc. My best pics were of Princess Diana when she visited a special school at the end of my road in about 1985/6 ish. There were only about 30 or so people waiting for her to come out (imagine that happening now-days) so I popped home, got my camera and motor drive out, covered it in cling film apart from the lens as it was raining and went up there. When she came out, she walked along the barrier shaking hands, she shook mine and at the same time I shot off a roll of film with one hand while she was shaking my other hand. I cringe now at how I behaved but at least I have the pictures to prove I met her! Whistle Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
